I have the opportunity to buy a used Cab (built 2023), these are the specs: LG 4K OLED Playfield, 2 HD Displays in the Backbox, PC is an Intel Core i7-12700F, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 LHR, 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM, some Toys, controlled by Rigmaster V1, real Flippers under playfield, SSF exists but is not installed/configured.  I am not sure but think vpx 10.7.4 was installed. I had a short look, was a bit shocked, that e.g. Jurassic Park did not run perfectly smooth, i recognized frame losses or sth similar , the ball did some some small 'jumps' sometimes. I believe it must have been some bad installation or wrong preferences or wrong framerate or Hz or sth else. The PC and gfx specs and display should be capable of running this perfectly smooth or not?? What do you think? Buy, reset PC , new installation with baller and new configs or renounce/waive? Thank you!

Pricing? Pictures? How's the build quality?

This is what ai told me:

The components are high-end and more than capable of running Visual Pinball X (VPX) at 4K resolution with "buttery smooth" performance.

The stuttering you witnessed on Jurassic Park is almost certainly due to software misconfiguration, outdated VPX versions, or improper Windows settings, rather than a lack of hardware power.

Here is a breakdown of why this is a good buy and how to address the issues.

1. The Hardware is Excellent

RTX 3070 LHR + i7-12700F: This is a very strong combination for 4K virtual pinball, even with complex PupPacks.

LG 4K OLED Playfield: This is the gold standard for virtual pinball, offering incredible contrast, fast response times, and usually high refresh rates (120Hz+) which make the ball look perfectly smooth.

Rigmaster V1: A solid, respected controller board for DOF (Direct Output Framework) toys.

2. Why it Likely Stuttered (And How to Fix It)

The stuttering on "heavy" tables like Jurassic Park is common on new cabs before they are tuned.

VSync/Framerate Issues: 4K 120Hz OLEDs require precise VSync settings in VPX. If not set properly, it causes micro-stutter.

Bad Installation/Outdated Software: The 2023 build likely used older 10.7.4 VPX. Modern 10.8 GL (OpenGL) is much faster and often smoother.

Windows Defender/Antivirus: Real-time scanning can cause massive stuttering in VPX. The solution is to add exclusions for the VPX and Tables folders.

PUPPacks: If the table was running a demanding PUPPack (video) on top of a 4K table without the GPU settings optimized, it can struggle.

Can i rely o that?

I will not post pics or prices here, given the build (def some love in there), the price is reasonable OK for me.

Without knowing additional details it is hard to make a recommendation, but if you think it is well built and reasonably priced then it's probably worth it. The hardware specs are good enough for most games at 4K/120Hz, so as long as you're starting with a fresh install you should be able to dial it in. Some demanding games (especially heavy-scripted originals running pup-packs) may need minor per game adjustments to run smoothly, but that's true with most setups.

My cab has the same CPU, I have a Nvidia 4070 GPU, but, I'm confident that 3070 would be ok too. I also have a 4K LG TV running 120Hz. Like @robertms said, you might have tables where the stutter exists. Especially if it is originals with heavy scripting. Dark Chaos by Apophis or Cyber Race by Flux pr. example. In my experience though, 10.8 has better performance and all I needed to do was to run those tables under a newer VPX. I don't recommend going for 10.8.1 as default, just yet though. My tests was run a while back. I have a version that is newer than 10.8 Final, but, still old. Maybe 6 mnd or so. Expect even better performance on the newer.

All I can say though. I would expect that this cab should run fine.

Thanks guys!, i think its a once in a long while chance to replace my totally outdated cab, so I will most likely go for it. I'll maybe show some pics of the beautiful cab later on. Happy easter still 🙂
