Ruenin Posted March 22 Posted March 22 I ran the updates to get The Matrix working, but now Ghostbusters will not load; I get 'Cannot load SPA file'. I did a search and found a couple of posts about this, but I can't discern if the cause is the same, so I'm hesitant to do anything shown. Can I ask for a solution that hopefully won't break anything else? lol, I know that's a lot to ask for this hobby, but I'm betting this is a simple file replacement somewhere, and I'm just ignorant. EDIT: I had seen that perhaps this table only works in 32 bit, so I did try to run it directly from VPX 10.8 32bit but I get the same error
digitalarts Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Please don't ask about Problems with this table... You got it to run in the past, so please try to solve your Error yourself. Or try maybe JP's great "Slimer" romless Version.
Tikimaster Posted March 23 Posted March 23 25 minutes ago, Ruenin said: t's that bad, huh? The issue with the Ghostbusters table in Visual Pinball is not really the table itself, but a special DLL file that is often required to run it. The real Ghostbusters pinball machine was made by Stern Pinball, and like most modern machines, its software is protected by copyright. In order to simulate the table accurately, Visual Pinball setups usually rely on ROM files, which already exist in a legally sensitive gray area. However, in the case of Ghostbusters, some versions require a modified DLL that goes a step further. This DLL can bypass built-in protection mechanisms or contain altered parts of the original software, which makes its distribution and use legally problematic. Because of that, the developers of Visual Pinball and related tools choose not to support setups that depend on such modified DLLs. They want to keep their projects clean, legally safe, and focused on officially supported components. Providing help for these files could be seen as encouraging the use of unauthorized modifications, which might expose them to legal risks. As a result, if someone runs into issues with a Ghostbusters table that depends on such a DLL, they will usually not receive help in official forums or communities. For beginners, this can be confusing, but a good rule of thumb is to stick to standard installations and avoid any tables that require special or unofficial DLL files from unknown sources. This way, you stay on the safe side and are more likely to get proper support if something doesn’t work.
