It was suggested to start a thread here regarding a problem some of us are having using pup packs in pinup popper. Specifically, there are 'u's showing up on the videos. I'm attaching a screenshot for reference. I have 64 bit everything, W10, the latest in all code as far as components go. I was at v1.5 64 bit for pinup popper, The Matrix table told me I needed 1.52, which I upgraded those two files to, and that error went away. Any help most appreciated.

Let's go through a basic troubleshooting checklist.  Lets assume you haven't upgraded to v2.0 beta yet and just want v1.5.2 PuPDMDs to work.

download the v1.5.2 zip from here:  https://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=pinup_upgrade_v15

unblock and overwrite BOTH files into your PinUPSystem Folder (make sure you see it asking you to overwrite, if you don't see overwrite then you are in the wrong folder).

check the build version of files. right-click on details for PinUPPlayer.exe (1.5.0.12),  PinUPDisplayX.exe(1.5.2.40)  (make sure they are not windows block and DONT do anything weird like run-as admin, or run in compatibility mode)

testing table:

Exit Popper.

Go into task manager and make sure there's no 'PinUpDIsplay' or 'PinUPPlayer' processes open.  If there are then you might have some background processes that are keeping a PuP Connection (Doflinx?,  3rd party utils?, Vpin-Studio?)

You want to make sure that its all good before manually running vpx 10.8 and running matrix or other v1.5 PuPDMDS.

Run the table (outside of frontend).

does it look/work correctly?  if Yes then you have something configured incorrectly in your FRONTEND or 3rd party app that may be keeping a PuP-Connection active when it shouldn't.

When the PuPDMD is running,  you can bring up taskmanager and right-click on PinUPDIsplay process and under general tab it will show you the EXE it is running.  It should be PinUPDisplayX.exe.

if you are running v2.0 beta.  Make sure you are on the latest Build of beta files (beta 20 as of today).  https://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=beta2026

OVERWRITE ALL FILES from zip,  do not pick and choose and only overwrite some files, that wont work.

Follow above steps.

The above steps assume you have a fully working v1.5 x64 bit system working prior.   You cannot take a 5 year old v1.4 vpx/pup 32bit setup and just overwrite current files.  If your setup is very old 32bit vpx/pup system you are better off starting fresh baller.

-Thanks and yes, your assumption is accurate.

download the v1.5.2 zip from here: https://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=pinup_upgrade_v15

-I did this again today. Build versions are accurate and nothing weird is set ;).

testing table:

Exit Popper.

Go into task manager and make sure there's no 'PinUpDIsplay' or 'PinUPPlayer' processes open.  If there are then you might have some background processes that are keeping a PuP Connection (Doflinx?,  3rd party utils?, Vpin-Studio?)

-There wasn't.

You want to make sure that its all good before manually running vpx 10.8 and running matrix or other v1.5 PuPDMDS.

Run the table (outside of frontend).

does it look/work correctly?

-The table works as expected without seeing 'U's on the DMD (yay!).

When the PuPDMD is running,  you can bring up taskmanager and right-click on PinUPDIsplay process and under general tab it will show you the EXE it is running.  It should be PinUPDisplayX.exe.

-It is.

if Yes then you have something configured incorrectly in your FRONTEND or 3rd party app that may be keeping a PuP-Connection active when it shouldn't.

-Curveball now for you: When I run the table in Pinup Popper, I see some 'U's on the DMD, HOWEVER, those go away completely when the DMD starts serving Player 1. So I am at 99%, haha. Any other ideas besides a complete reinstall? At this point, I can probably live with that minor blip of a problem.

Thanks,

Jeff

It shows as pinupdisplayx.exe. I must admit though, it shows as 32 bit and I thought I was running in 64 bit. Maybe I am just misunderstanding on that front. Thanks.

thats ok that it shows 32bit,  but that's PinUPMenu's pupdriver.  If you run Matrix or Dark Dungeon what is its driver?  Also, i see you have doflinx running.  disable that for now.

Gotcha. Pardon my ignorance, but where would I find the Matrix driver then to see what it is using? I opened The Matrix table inside Popper and then ctrl+shift+esc to get to that before.

no worries.  while running matrix just bring up taskmanager and look for any pinupdisplay. But what you've shown so far my best guess is doflinx or another app has a connection to older pupdriver (look through entire taskman list).

I stopped doflinx and checked while The Matrix was running inside Popper. Sure enough, it was using pinupdisplay.exe and not pinupdisplayx.exe. I have no idea where it is picking that up from. I renamed pinupdisplay.exe to something different, then made a copy of pinupdisplayx.exe and renamed it to pinupdisplay.exe and it worked. Of course, now my question is what will doing that break? ;)

Thanks.

OK... I didn't know someone else started this thread... I'll do the same and check taskmaster.. but I HAVE done the 2.0 download and renamed the X version to the exe so it should always be running... when I get home I'll do the tests above and follow up with my info on my cab.  Thank you.

Ok.. I'm doing tests as indicated... here are my notes:

Let's go through a basic troubleshooting checklist.  Lets assume you haven't upgraded to v2.0 beta yet and just want v1.5.2 PuPDMDs to work.

download the v1.5.2 zip from here: https://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=pinup_upgrade_v15

*** I did do the update to 2.0, but I'm going back as you indicated and redownloading the 1.52 and overwriting the files (unblocked) as indicated.
The 1.52 files are now over written, no compatibility mode or weirdness.  The versions are now: Pinupplayer - 1.5.0.12 and PinupdisplayX - 1.5.2.40
I did not copy over Pinupdisplay.exe as of this step. ***

testing table:

Exit Popper.

Go into task manager and make sure there's no 'PinUpDIsplay' or 'PinUPPlayer' processes open.  If there are then you might have some background processes that are keeping a PuP Connection (Doflinx?,  3rd party utils?, Vpin-Studio?)

**** When I exit Pinup Popper and run Taskmanager there is no instance of it running. ****

You want to make sure that its all good before manually running vpx 10.8 and running matrix or other v1.5 PuPDMDS.

Run the table (outside of frontend).

does it look/work correctly?

**** Outside of popper using VPinball (GL) 10.8.0.2058 I still have the 'u' and 'u and the pup seems to not be doing the triggers correctly (both in and out of popper)... text stays on the screen and begin to pile on top of each other.. white rabbit, neo, etc making it cluttered. ****

When the PuPDMD is running,  you can bring up taskmanager and right-click on PinUPDIsplay process and under general tab it will show you the EXE it is running.  It should be PinUPDisplayX.exe.

**** With The Matrix Table running on GL outside of Popper, I brought up Taskmanager as indicated.  Taskmanager is showing these running: PinupDisplay version 1.4.6 462 and Pinupplayer.exe 1.5.0 12 both running 32 bit (though I run most everything on 64bit I think) ****

if Yes then you have something configured incorrectly in your FRONTEND or 3rd party app that may be keeping a PuP-Connection active when it shouldn't.

I have also included a screenshot of my taskmanager with the matrix table open in GL (not popper)

Hopefully these first test steps help you help me  :)

Thanks for your support NB!

the weird item you have is that B2S Backglass Server is even running with Matrix?   You need to find out what started the B2S server?  VPIN-STUDIO?  are you using a BG in Matrix perhaps?  if B2S isn't started correctly it will start the old pup driver before matrix starts up.

I am actually using Haunt's BG with matrix, I just turn off his FullDMD image and use that for the puppack. I didn't even know if you needed the plugin info.. but I'm trying to get you everything you may need.  I'm so over this not working right.

Also if I need to turn off his backglass for testing... I can do that no problem.

Also I tried to record the "layering" of the pup pack on Matrix... but it's hard to play and record of course... essentially what is happening is it seem to no be getting rid of the graphics as more appear from modes and shots and info... it just becomes a mess.  It's not my biggest problem... the 'u' is of course... but it's an issue too as the pup pack just looks like a message after a few mins.

I did turn off the B2S... didn't really help anything... pup pack still has all the same issues

don't worry about how the pup looks because if its running v1.4 it will break/look awful.

focus on taskmanager and if b2s server is running and which pinupdisplay.exe is running.

Ok... you may find this interesting... I copied the 2.0 files over again and then started up pinup popper and ran The matrix.

Have a look at this...  so there are 2 versions of pinupdisplay running and one pinupplayer (2.0)

one is 2.0
one is 1.4.2 32 bit

OK... I'll be able to test a lot more tomorrow... just let me know what you need me to test, screenshot, or whatever and I'll post that here tomorrow... thank you.
