I use the virtual pinball spreadsheet as an easy and total "new table" check in and i will say i love it! It's up to date, clear and has all the links you need to wherever a file is.

THEN i get a link to VPU and when i download there is a "patch"file! What is the use of this, other then just over complicating updating and especially when you just have a fresh install and just want a new table?!

I know I know, you'll say it's handy, because you just put the file there and the program does the rest.

To me this is just and extra step, another program when there are already many programs in de VP environment!

Also i find it feels very much VPU exclusive, which is even more ridiculous! I love VPU, but the core of all VP is open source and broad availability!

Patches are usually largely cosmetic and minor additions to the existing table, and created by someone who isn't the original table author. By releasing a patch, the author is providing an optional upgrade whilst respecting the original creation where the original author might not be wanting their table amended.

Whatever the reasoning, the patch process literally takes less than 30 secs. Whilst you might see this 30 secs as a huge inconvenience in your life, you'll be astounded at how many hundreds of man hours likely went into the original creation that has been provided to you for free. This is a hobby that flourishes, and provides many with great enjoyment, due to the talent and goodwill of creators. Sometimes, it's better to show gratitude and constructive feedback to enable this to continue as overly critical posts and demands can come across as entitled and unappreciative. Just my opinion of course!

Thanks @neil81992. You nailed this reply.

There are several reasons for the patch... The primary being that these updates are mainly minor changes. Changes that DO NOT warrant a full release. Simply moving some lights, increasing light intensity, adding a graphic here or there... these are simple remixes that the "modder" done to a much larger creation.  If the modder releases their file (which took an hour), then it makes the original release by the original author that took possibly hundreds of hours obsolete.

Another reason, sometimes it is not possible to get the original authors permission to mod their file... This allows a modder to release a modification without permission from the original author. The modder can make their updates to the original file, create the patch, and release only the patch.  The patch contains only the modders changes/updates and not the original works from the original creator(s).

Third, bandwidth, releasing a patch is a much smaller file size than a release that includes everything.

The 30 seconds for you to patch the file is nothing in comparison to the possible hundreds of hours the original file author spent creating the original file?

It is very VPU specific, one because I created the process, and two because... we like to give credit, where credit is due. The original file is the HERO and deserves to be downloaded and kept relevant.

Why the patch tool?!?! DEVELOPERS JUST UPLOAD NORMALLY!

...i download there is a "patch"file!...

...just over complicating updating and especially when you just have a fresh install and just want a new table?!...

Thanks for introducing yourself shouting at the generous host and developers. We can tell you'll be a real "asset" to the community.

Even when they receive the result of hours of work as a gift, some people are dissatisfied because they have to click somewhere four times instead of twice. Oh, how unpleasant life can be...
My goodness, I often think, what problems will these people encounter when they face real, genuine problems in their life... when they have to klick six times for something...  🤡

I've been in this community from the beginning, so all respect to the creators is there, don't get your panties in a bunch, haha!

The responses of some here, because someone has an opinion and explained why his opinion is like that, are pretty harsh i'd say! Bit defensive and well sad really i'd say! haha.

I used to use Docpinball and had an dedicated email, online one, that got sold or whatever, haha. Forgot my password here ,then jadajada! New account!

Been an Junkies admin since the beginning.

Thanks for explaining though(neil, Dazz), i didn't know this was an issue with developers in the first place! But apparently some like it this way. To each his own!

I do find it is not a solution and over complicating things though, because a simple; MOD by "a name" ,behind the filename and in the script would be enough imo! And i get that some developers might be very VPU based only, then yeah it's handy.

And noo it's not lazyness, i can't run every file on my work laptop! (...see there's a reason!)

For me i love VP and just think it should be as much spread as can be, instead of site based.

Yes there are leechers, yes those pack motherfuckers can die a horrible death!(not seriously!) and especially the selling of fully loaded cabs, then you're just an asshole to the community!

Anyway enough said, i'll just wait for the original creators to do a release.

For some....RELAX! PEOPLE!.....i mean relax...really, just play some pinball!
