NBA Fastbreak — Some teams not registering high scores / initials?

Howdy folks, 

 

I’ve been spending a lot of time with NBA Fastbreak lately and decided to go team-by-team to try and set the high scores for each one (just for fun).

 

I’ve run into something odd, on certain teams, even if I beat the existing team high score, the game doesn’t recognize it and never prompts for initials.

 

For example, when playing as the Lakers, the factory score is around 76, but after beating it I didn’t get the “YOU ARE AN NBA CHAMPION” message or the initials entry. It just finished the game as if nothing happened.

 

I also noticed that for some teams (like Lakers and Bulls), there appear to be two score fields instead of one.

Most teams just show: AAA — SCORE

But these teams show something like: AAA — 0 — SCORE (LED reads 000 — 136)

 

So I’m wondering whether those teams track score differently or if I’m missing something in how team scoring works.

 

I haven’t changed any ROM settings, everything is still factory reset.

 

Has anyone seen this before or know what might be going on (or what I might be doing wrong)?

I figured it out - I was just being silly. It's the championship rings....duh.

 

Leaving this here (if that's okay) so anyone else who is as dunderheaded as I am might find it useful.
