N9YTY Posted December 8, 2025 Posted December 8, 2025 Lifelong IT guy, not huge gamer, but picked up an Arcade2TV-XR on sale and fell in love when I saw pinball in VR. I've tried to jump in, but probably have taken some wrong turns and run into many issues, so thought I would take a step back... Is there a guide anywhere on how to set things up to play (and locate!) good working tables for use in VR with the Arcade2TV controller? I tried the Baller Installer and it had issues, found a blog post setting up just VisualPinball latest beta w/VPinMAME, and it worked fairly well but many tables I tried to use don't have backglass/scoring in VR, etc... Starting to get overwhelmed because I really don't need another full time project - I just want to play some pinball. LOL I'm going to keep looking and learning, this seems to be an awesome community so thanks for letting me in.
WCC Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 I'm in pretty much the same situation as you! I'm going to write down what I think I've learned, and I hope any veterans will correct me where I'm wrong. I've seen a few posts saying "baller installer is for cabs" and not to use it for a VR cab. Just install the stuff directly yourself. (I use Baller anyhow, but I probably have stuff I don't need.) The latest release of VPX (which you'll have to update to, if you use the baller installer, IIRC) has the VR launcher built into it. It's VPinballX_GL64_Launcher.exe . If you want to play in VR manually, you have to launch VPinballX_GL64.exe instead of the other exes. It seems to be the only one with VR support. There's a whole category for VR ROOM tables. They're your best bet for getting starting quickly on testing a VR table. Other tables may or may not work, from what I gather. I never got sound working properly. I ended up using my PC speakers as I couldn't get it through my headset, no matter what I chose. 5 on the numpad will reset the view, and 8 and 2 will move the table up and down. You can get pretty close to your controller's position with this, but I haven't tried to perfect it yet. To make the DMD work in VR, I read that you have to enable "external DMD". I'm trying to make it work with either my existing vpin cab (which a computer that may not be able to handle vr) or my new Arcade2TV-XR controller. The new controller is *absolutely amazing* with Pinball FX VR on the Quest 3, and if I can get the PC VR cabs working that well, I'm going to be *absolutely ecstatic*. And by that, I mean my wife will (the pinball fanatic in the family) and I'll live vicariously through her. lol
