Nordfinn Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 I'm quite new to virtual pinball--just a few days--but already an enthusiastic user/player. Everything here is quite amazing. I've downloaded perhaps 20 tables and associated files. Just a very few glitches. Once in a while I get a message that an image or two didn't load, and advising that I might do better if I used 64-bit VPX. I downloaded VPX through Github, and I thought I read something about that there was no longer a distinction between 32-bit and 64-bit versions. I have an icon for VPinballx64, but when I try to load it I get this error message: The code execution cannot proceed because d3dx9_43.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem. I didn't realize until now that I've been using the 32-bit version (apparently). Anyone know what I should do? Did I download from the wrong site? Thanks, N.
deadmanworking Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 If you got your system running I'd recommend you check this guide to install all needed components (again).. Also check that you have all Visual C runtimes and Direct X updates
Nordfinn Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 Still having trouble with this. First I reverted to VP 10.8.0 (I first installed the latest prerelease, 10.8.1, dated August 7). but the 64-bit program would still not open. Then I ran the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer, and now 64-bit 10.8.0 will open, but when I try and load the tables that were giving me problems in the 32-bit program, I get lots of runtime errors. So in 32-bit I get warnings that some images won't load, likely because of lack of memory, and advisement to run the 64-bit program, and then when I try to load the same table in the 64-bit program, I get runtime errors ("Cannot create ActiveX component) and sometimes the program crashes out. The tables giving me problems are Alien Star, Skateball, Elvis, etc. Simpler ones load ok. I quickly getting out of my depth here. Anyone have any pointers? Thanks, N.
deadmanworking Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 First off, don't use 10.8.1 as it's still beta. Make sure you use v10.8.0-2051-28dd6c3 as outlined in the guide. Your error sound like you didn't install or register the 64 bit versions of Vpinmame and/or B2Sserver, so again make sure you have those: Vpinmame: here it's okay to use the newer version 3.7, this is the installer you need: VPinMAME-sc-3.7.0-46-2b48173-win-x64.zip - as always unblock after downloading and then run Setup64.exe B2Sserver: here you can also use the newest version B2S Server v2.1.4.1 mashup, download, unblock, and register.
Nordfinn Posted December 4, 2025 Author Posted December 4, 2025 Well thanks so much. All set now. I seems I hadn't run the 64-bit setup routine that was sitting in the folder. Some aspects of getting this all set up are not so obvious, for a neophyte. I could have used Baller Installer, I suppose, but it looked like in included more than I was likely to use, so I steered clear. At any rate: All good now and pleased with what I've got. Thanks for you help. N
deadmanworking Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 @Nordfinn great to hear. I also don't use AIO installer, the upside is that you'll have less problems going forward if you're familiar with the process 🙏
