I'm currently struggling with the following problem.

The situation is that I had to replace my C drive due to a hardware failure.

I have a complete backup of my VPinball folder.

After installing Windows on the new hard drive, I restored the backup. When I wanted to test the first pinball machine, I noticed that my buttons were incorrectly configured.

I went into the settings and discovered that the default button assignments had changed. For example, "Start Game" changed from the default 1 to "!" and "Insert Coin" changed from 5 to %.

I can't change this; whenever I try to remap a button, "Start Game" displays "!" instead of 1. All keyboard inputs work correctly in the editor; if I type 1, the 1 appears.

I've searched extensively in the forum, consulted AI, and of course, tried the classic Google search to find the problem. No luck!

I've searched extensively in the forum, consulted AI, and, of course, Googled it. No luck! As a last resort, I thought I'd install VPinball on a second computer, copy the settings there, and paste them onto the first PC.

However, after installing the VPX Main Installer, I discovered that the second PC is experiencing the same issue. What's going on? Where did I go wrong?

P.S.: I've deleted the VPX INI file multiple times, but I can't change the game start or coin insertion settings.

It would be really great if someone could help me.

Thanks!

I noticed the same on my system, however in my case these keys also work in game. I think it might have something to do with non-English keyboard layout. Are you on a cab or desktop? Do you use a keyboard or controller mapped to buttons, or keys?

Thank you for your reply.

I'm playing in Cabinet Mode. I'm using an iPac Ultimate, so a keyboard.

I would say it's the iPac's fault, BUT I don't have an iPac installed on my second computer, just a keyboard, no controller or anything else.

The only thing that's the same is my Stream Deck.

Edit: OS = Win11

What language and keyboard layout are you set to in windows?

My desktop behaves the same way. I. e. pushing "1" key for start game assigns "!", so it behaves as if caps lock is activated. However, in-game these keys also function as intended.

What about your other keys like shift or alphabet keys, do they work correctly?

same here

A quick test revealed that changing the keyboard language settings to "english" solves the setting, where "german" causes that caps lock behavior.

Oh my goodness, it wasn't like that before, was it?

My problem is solved, albeit a bit inconveniently, since I usually use the German layout. But with the Windows Space hotkey, you can quickly switch the layout!
