I have just seen this clip from Karl DeAngelo, sounds very interesting. I have emailed him. What happens next? For this table, is it for purchase only as a full-size table, or does he plan to release it to the VPX/future community to build? At some point in the future

I’m curious if that means they’ll be cool with digital reproductions after it is sold out.

i did send him a message, and with regret he said no

so just to clarify jeff, the answer is no, the pinball community are not allowed to replicate this table.

Well, it’s probably done with that answer, but for future reference I do wonder how it was asked.

If it was asked something like “Is it cool if the vpin community recreates this table, after it is no longer in production?” Then of course the answer is “no”… they wouldn’t have the legal rights to say anything else.

The REAL question is “Hey, if hypothetically someone would recreate this table virtually, what are the odds they would be sued for that?”. It’s unfortunate that you have to ask that kind of roundabout way, but that is the kind of legal gray area that the hobby exists in. That is also why it is probably best to ask this kind of question face-to-face at a show or something, where they can speak “off-the-record”, rather than committing to the written record that is email.

That's an excellent point and I agree. Unfortunately, even if we got unofficial go-ahead there's always the risk that someone else in the organization initiates a shit-storm. I think it'll eventually happen, but not anytime soon unless there is someone that is super into pinball and super fascinated with the mystery house. EDIT: Oh and in addition to that - technically capable of even doing it. I'm almost there, but I'm also the laziest person alive. So I got that going go for me.

But I'll say this - I can't do art related stuff. I do software dev professionally so if ever anyone reads this and gets inspired, send me a message.
