tk007b Posted October 1, 2025 Posted October 1, 2025 Hi there, Day 1 super noob speaking! - I've got Visual Pinball working today with a couple of different tables, so far so good. However, would like to get a collection of Star Wars pinball tables. Have read up that I need to get PINMAME and run a script so it all sounds very complicated. My questions are: 1. Which forum should I be posting in ? 2. Is there a video / idiots guide on how to get a collection of star wars set ups working ? Thanks very much for the guidance. TK
deadmanworking Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Hi @tk007b, welcome to the forum Go to VPS and enter star wars. You will find all created tables for all systems. If you have Visual Pinball already working, you can download any of the tables marked "VPX" (plus backglass and rom) and run them in the program. Recommend the Data East table (1992) and Star Wars Trilogy (1997) which are both excellent recreations of the original machines. (there's also a good original table by marty: The Mandalorian) For Future Pinball (marked "FP") you'll have to do a separate program install but it has another excellent Star Wars table, Death Star Assault, it's a lot of fun. Then you will find everything marked with "Zen Studios" on Steam in the applications Pinball FX3 / Pinball FX, there are heaps of SW tables but you will have to purchase them in the app.
tk007b Posted October 2, 2025 Author Posted October 2, 2025 In terms of what is the 'best' (most realistic ball movement and layout) is Visual Pinball the best .. or is it a case of some work on VP and others work on FP, so I should get both working ? Thanks again for the speedy and helpful reply :-) TK :-)
deadmanworking Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Concentrate on VP first if your priority is physics and graphics. Tinker around until you have graphics settings, POV etc all set up to your satisfaction and you will probably find the best immersion. FP I basically only installed for for Masters of the Universe, Aliens and Death Star Assault, they are in a different category, you might say they are more arcade-y.. but incredibly fun and satisfying. Even though I purchased a few packs, I haven't tried many Pinball FX / FX3 tables, the big advantage is they work straight out of the box, but after seeing the capabilities of VPX they will probably age pretty fast.
tk007b Posted October 3, 2025 Author Posted October 3, 2025 Thank you :-) Got Star Wars Trilogy working and noticed that the background effects (ball, moving parts such as X-Wing) are disproportionally loud and that the talking (Darth, Luke's voices) are much quieter. The Addams family, however, seems to be more balanced. I never played pinball games very much in the arcade but now I've tinkered with this, I can really see the appeal. Need to adjust the brightness for the table too, as I can lose the ball sometimes on the table. If I press Q, it gives me some options but is there another menu button I should be pressing ?, where is the manual for VPinball ? (not for editing the table, just for the controls such as volume, brightness etc) Lastly, might switch on my 2nd monitor and spin it 45 degress (how do I adjust the table to spin 45 degrees to match it and allow me to play longways on the screen (portrait) Cheers - nearly there ! :-)
deadmanworking Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 For Star Wars trilogy you can adjust the background (ROM) volume with the 8 and 9 keys on your keyboard. In VPX you can push F12 for some settings (such as Day/Night to adjust ambient brightness) but most adjustments need to be done in the table editor before you launch to play the table. You can use 2 monitors, you'll need to switch to cabinet mode in VPX > Video settings which will make it so that you will not be using full single screen (with scores on the same screen as the playfield), but cabinet mode (playfield screen rotated 270 degrees on one monitor, backglass and scores on other)
