Have found a very annoying problem with 10.8 VPX DX versions of tables that use a ROM for soundtracks/fx etc...... They are noticeably lower in volume to running the same table and same ROM in 10.7 DX and earlier versions of VP.... Close to 3-5dB or maybe more.....  Reviewed many other articles that tried to "fix" this issue but nothing I've tried has assisted.

I have 10.7 setup as a 32 Bit version of VPX and my 10.8 is a 64 Bit version.

Many users stated during development of 10.8 to Tick the Convert Mono sounds to Stereo in VPinmame and also to use the actual named Sound card driver rather than 'primary sound driver'.  Neither of these have helped.....

If I run a table (e.g. Terminator 2 G5K) using 't2_l8' rom side by side in 10.7 and 10.8 when the tables loads/plays in 10.7 it sounds as loud as it ever has.  Doing the same with a 10.8 DX version of the same table using the same ROM it loads/plays with soundtrack around 5dB lower in output.

Running the same ROM via Setup.exe and Setup64.exe to mimic both a 32 bit and 64 bit VPinmame environment causes the ROM to play at EXACTLY the same volume.... So it's not a VPinmame issue.....

Any more ideas to a fix for this problem?  I've raised it via GitHub also......

At least when I tried 10.8.1 beta's on DX and GL seems to have fixed this 10.8 issue.  But they bring with them a whole new list of issues themselves...!!!

Ended up finding the issue and it was NOTHING to do with VPX 10.8 DX...... Whilst I was trialling VPX through it's years of BETA releases and RC versions..... I named my executable VPinballX BETA.exe.  Worked fine throughout the whole development stage..... Once it was released as 10.8 Final, I continued to call my executable VPinballX BETA.exe  In doing so, I have somehow made VPX run with reduced volume...... Very strange indeed.  As soon as I renamed the executable with an underscore in the file name (to VPinballX_BETA.exe) my sound level is as per all other VP versions - LOUD !!  No wonder I thought I was the ONLY person in the world experiencing this issue!!!

I have exactly the opposite, with 10.7 my tables the sound is all set but when I convert to 10.8 final it is it's much louder.

The fix that I found for this is opening up 10.7 and going in
to settings and the sounds and adjusting the volume whe
n 10.7 is open turning it up to whatever 10.8 is.

I have the same problem with some tables (Avengers Pro, stern) running 64 bit vpx 10.8 having low sound. If I run them in 32 bit, sound is fine. So I did what you suggested above and renamed vPinballx64.exe to vPinballx64_BETA.exe. Now the sound works perfect, so weird.

It is the WEIREST thing in VP I have ever come across.....
