Hey everyone. So I installed the newest baller installer today, complete with VPX 10.8. I've watched a bunch of how-to videos, including some by Nailbuster, but I'm still having issues, particularly in the file naming convention and where-to-find-table-ROMs areas. For instance, my all time favorite table (nostalgia hits really hard) is Cyclone. I've downloaded the v2.2 vpx file shown here

I grabbed what I think is the correct backglass file as well. I've renamed both files to match and put them in the tables folder. I referenced the ipdb URL to grab the ROM, but when I try to run the table in VPX, it states that the ROM file is missing, though I have it in the roms folder in VPinMAME. So I'm stumped now. It's a learning process, and I haven't been at it long, but I'm determined to make this one work and use it as a means to learn how to do more. Anyone willing to help me out?

Ah, see, that second link is what I missed. I had clicked the IPDB tab that showed the URL for where I thought the ROM was located and grabbed the one from there. Thank you for clearing that up. I'll try that today. Your help is much appreciated! I went through a similar learning curve when building my RPi4 arcade cab. Just gotta figure out where all the pieces go and where to get them lol.

One other question: I see that there are regular updates to tables, but does the ROM generally stay the same? If I already have the ROM for a table, for instance, and I want to update it to a newer version of the table, do I just need the backglass and vpx files?

Yep normally you just swap the table .vpx file over for the updated one and leave the B2S & rom files alone,,,,,

on a few tables you might need to change the rom over for a colorized version if your wanting to use an alt colour file for a colorized DMD ,,i think thats just on a few Stern tables though,,,,,

also you might come across the odd few tables that might require 2 or more roms in some cases but thats pretty rare

When I grabbed the ROM files from the IPDB link, there were 2. An L1 and an L5, and both zip files contained files called L1 and L5, so I was a bit confused. Thanks for the link you gave me. I can't wait to try that out. I tried to installed 10.8 on my 10.7.3 machine (renamed the file n such so I could specify which .exe to run for newer tables) but I got an error stating it couldn't copy the .ini file, so I haven't been able to get that working yet. It's a prebuilt table, so I wonder if the manufacturer locked it down somehow, which seems a bit unethical given this is open source code. As it is, I've had to install this all on my laptop so I can try to get an understanding of how it all works.

or rather "vpinmame\roms" folder :)

As someone in IT, I vibe with this, but it's still mean lol

If you downloaded and installed the 64bit version of 10.8 and your cabs visual pinball folder is not configured for the 64 bit stuff then that might be why 10.8 isn't working ,,where as baller installer is all pre  configured for 64/32bit with pretty much every version your going to need bar maybe 1 or 2 ,,its pretty much genius really...lol

if that is the case with the 64bit ? you could try the 10.8 32bit version and 32bitGL,,,although personally id say if your cab doesn't have baller then defo install it when you've sussed all the ins and outs as all the crazy good stuff these guys are producing now is for the 64bit versions.

Did you use the backglass that robbykingpin links you too & rom

and

https://www.vpforums.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=907

Thanks! That worked! I am wondering if you could explain where you got the link for the ROM because I had downloaded the other two files and put them in the right place. I just had trouble finding the ROM that works. I looked again at the post and didn't see anything where Robbiekingpin had posted that link, but I could just be blind.

Above the screenshots of the table he tells you the rom name , i just typed into google "vpx cycln_l5 rom" and it was the first link that came up.

regarding ROMs: I like to share my strategy...
when I search roms - if the rom is not integrated in the vpx. and needed. On the download page is usually says

image.png.2110852b6317f063275390ee7153f334.png

so I open google and search for:

twd_160h.zip ROM

99% the first or second link is a hit.

put the zip in the ROMS folder.

Well now I just feel dumb lol. Thanks for that. I will get this down. I'm absolutely in love with my table but I need to learn a lot more about setting things up so I can start modifying.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was actually offended. You helped. I appreciate it.
