Ruenin Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Hi everyone. I just bought a table from RecRoomWorld. I absolutely love it. All of my disillusions about vpin vs real pin are gone. Thing is, I'm well aware of the upgradability and the ever improving nature of tables, and I would like to start updating and adding more. I just don't know where to start. I have an Arcade1Up cab that I gutted and retrofitted with a Raspberry Pi4 and have modded that thing like mad. I work in IT, so I can get around in software well enough, especially if it's something I'm really interested in, like this. As soon as I saw the RobbyKingPin version of Cyclone on YouTube, I shot over here immediately, but realized pretty quickly that I don't know where to start. Which files do I download? Where do they go? I'll have to watch a tutorial on Baller Installer, I imagine, and maybe Pinup Popper, but otherwise, I'm clueless in this arena. Anyone will to help me out? I know it's kind of blasphemy to buy a premade table in some circles, but I just don't have the time, space, or inclination to build one myself, at least not right now. My wife bought this for me as a surprise and I'm floored. Lots of bad tables, but holy hell are there some great ones.
Tikimaster Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Hard to say where to start. If I had a fresh cab and no Idea of the Software Side, I think I would install the software on a laptop or any PC to see how it works and be able to do things without risking my running system. I would learn to install and configure VPX, Backglass, DMDext, PinupPlayer or PinpupPopper on desktop not risking anything. Depending on my learning curve I then would be able to do changes and installs on the cab.
Ruenin Posted May 22, 2025 Author Posted May 22, 2025 That seems like a fair assessment. I was looking at tables here and downloaded a couple, but unless I'm missing something, it seems like many are only the .vpx file and not the accompanying rom or DMD files. Is it like arcade video games where it's just up to me to find the remaining files because it's taboo or legally gray to ask where to get them? EDIT: Nvm. I just figured out how to read lol
Administrators Dazz Posted May 22, 2025 Administrators Posted May 22, 2025 Yes, we don't care for pre-built cabs here. Companies expect to use our content to sell their machines. It's illegal for us to sell any of the re-creations that we do, that includes including them on a pre-built machine. It's against our community standards. Anyway, welcome to the hobby. There is a lot to it... With that being said, I would personally, gut what you have, backup the hard drive just in case you need config files for DOF. I'm sure that they didn't provide a DOF account for configuring solenoids/lights, etc. You'll need to update those anyway if you want them to work on newer games. Install the Pinup Baller Installer, that will get the front end and emulators setup. Then simply download/update the games 1 at a time. Trying to combine what you already have and updating will cause more confusion. Don't bulk download tables/files as this isn't a drag-n-drop hobby like retropi, or any other ROM/emulation hobby. Our files are not a one size fits all, you'll want to setup and configure each individual game.

He does a step by step of building a custom cab, and also setting up the software for how to play. Worth a watch even if you just use it for setting up the software. RecRoomWorld cabs seem insanely expensive compared to many other options. I only glanced quickly but saw it costing 10k and that is just mental. Most likely the cab is already using Baller Installer and Popper though, you would just need to add extra tables.

I just figured out how to read lol .vpx is just the table file. Most re-creations you will also need the ROM and Backglass (B2S) file. So usually a minimum of 3 files. Once you get into pup-packs, and other things you may need additional files. You'll find most, if not all, of the files you need on this site. On the download page, most recreations, say what ROM they use. Just put that romname into the search, and it should find the ROM.

No, simply adding a game to the folders isn't going to do anything. You have to add it to your frontend database. Check out an app called VPIN Studio.

Almost had me convinced to figure out a way to build my own, but ultimately my wife bought me a machine and I'm happy with that. Once I get a better handle on things, I may decide to take a whack at a home spun table, but right now I just want to improve this one.
