Retheme to a Spinal Tap table - questions from dumb-ass

Hello,

 

I've spent the last week delving into what could be involved in re-theming an existing table. I like the idea of MM...swap stonehenge for the castle, Hell Hole for the lock, Big Bottom Multiball, etc.). The caveat is that I've never worked on a table, but feel like with some patience and advice I could get this done eventually. The part I am struggling with the most conceptually is how to redo the ROM messages. I think I understand how to do it once I have the hashes and images, but I can't seem to figure out an easy way to capture them all.

 

Questions:

1. Is this a stupid idea?

2. Any ideas on the ROM image issue?

3. Recommendations on approaching this via Freezy DMD or Pup?

Another content creator on here (@watacaractr) has been able to mod the roms to change messaging.  It takes the use of a byte code editor on the rom.  You kinda have to find the strings there and edit them.  I do think you have to keep the same length though.  He has moded tables to "Cheech and Chong", "Beavis and Butthead", and "Tom and Jerry" to name a few.  His tables are very high quality and the modded roms complete the picture.

Thanks - I may reach out to them. I considered that approach, but dealing with the hexadecimal sounded like a nightmare. Appreciate it!
