SireB Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 Hi all, As this is my first post, I want to start by thanking the community for the great work, incredible table releases, and great information found here. Now, to my issue. I have a Radeon RX580, windows 11, connected to a TCL 43V6B 4K 43" tv, latest version of VPX 10.8 Works great except for one very annoying thing : When I start a table, table appears with great colors for a few seconds, then screen turns black for one second or so, and table reappears with more "washed out" colors. Then it works fine, generally no more flashing. Curiously, sometimes, there is another black screen flash, and table comes back to vivid colors as initially. But it is very rare, and with no particular reason. For info, when I exit VPX, Windows colors are also a bit washed out, and turn back to "normal" after 1 second. Tried all sorts of settings in VPX, found out that unchecking "Use alternative depth buffer (legacy)" gives less washed out colors (really awful when checked), but still there clearly is a change if colors after 1 or 2 seconds after launching the table. Tried Open GL and DX version, no difference. Played with a the AMD Adrenaline settings (pretty hard to figure out what all these settings do exactly..., no change. Also tried window /fullscreen exclusive mode in VPX, no difference. Set all TV parameters to "basic" (no hdmi cec, etc) Looks like VPX is trying to do something a few seconds after starting a table, which changes the display parameters Weird and frustrating. Has anybody experienced this behaviour ? any clue on what to do ? Could this be a cable issue (running Displayport to hdmi from the graphic card to the TV) Thanks in advance for your tips and sorry for a long first post
deadmanworking Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 @SireB did you check that VPX is using the exact same display settings as your Windows general display settings? Resolution and Hertz rate identical? + do you have display scaling set to 100%? Just to rule out a mismatch here first.
SireB Posted May 7, 2025 Author Posted May 7, 2025 (edited) Hi, thanks @deadmanworking for your answer. Yes, same resolution, same frequency, scaling is set to 100%. (I had a working 1080P setup before, just bought a new 4K tv, only difference) I forgot to mention that I do not have HDR activated either (which could explain washed out colors). Unless HDR is somehow "auto activated", which is unlikely. Strange thing is colors are really great at first launch , then black screen appears for 1 sec, and colors become "washed out" And to be more precise, if I launch another table from VPX even without quiting VPX first, same issue occurs, great colors, then poor colors. Thanks. Edited May 7, 2025 by SireB
deadmanworking Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 Could be a color profile problem, maybe the AMD app is applying something after launch? Try going into AMD Adrenaline settings and disable "color efficiency correction".
deadmanworking Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 (edited) Or maybe just kill the AMD app before launching to see if it's the culprit? There might also be a Windows setting under Display / Advanced display / Automatically manage color for apps, try turning it off if enabled Edited May 7, 2025 by deadmanworking
SireB Posted May 7, 2025 Author Posted May 7, 2025 @deadmanworkingYour help is much appreciated 👍 Yes, I already did turn off the "Automatically manage color for apps" option, no effect. Killing the Adrenaline App before launching, I did not try this, good idea, I will test this evening after work (yeah..work is a pain in the a... when it prevents you from tweaking your vpin 😅) Your suggestion on AMD "color efficiency" is interesting. I have not noticed this option in the 283523249 options in adrenaline 😄 I sure will look into it too. Cool tips you provided here, thanks ! I'll report back on the results.
SireB Posted May 8, 2025 Author Posted May 8, 2025 Hi, Did some testing yesterday evening. Somehow I managed to improve colors, no more wash out (don't ask how, I can't remember wat I did to fix it, too much tweaking here and there...) I still have this 1 sec black screen at launch, not a big deal, still ruins the pinball experience a bit (imagine your real pinball switching off for one sec at every launch 😄) I think there is some fight between my TCL TV and my Radeon RX-580 (I am considering replacing it with an Nvidia , advices on what to use are welcome !) More tests to come this evening.. If anybody has any suggestion for a good Nvidia graphic card with reasonable cost, I'll gladly take it (motherboard is Asus TUF gaming M-520+ Wifi, TV is TCL 43v6B 4K) Thanks
SireB Posted June 25, 2025 Author Posted June 25, 2025 Hi, Sorry it took so long to give feedback...real life stuff interfered... I finally bought an Asus DUAL-RTX3060-O12G-V2. So far so good, everything works fine, tables look amazing, no more issues with my TCL tv. Thanks for this great community 👍
