Great idea, another is to have a relay connected to a button underneath the cab to switch a plugboard on/off

Cabinet graphics now finished, made just for me in the other side of the globe, thanks to the mighty stuzza in Australia

Now gotta find a good local print shop.

And start installing all the bells and whistles to the cabinet. And videoing. And editing and all that.

Oh boys, the build videos sure are hard to create with almost zero video editing background.

Feeling at the moment like building a virtual pinball is easier than the video stuff 😄

But all this will be a good learning experience I bet.

This is looking nice. Few thoughts and questions.

 

• How does the single exciter sub work? I bought an extreme kit from CSD and when I got mine it had two amps for SSF and two subs, I'm assuming with one you have to dedicate it to front or back SSF?
• Purely an opinion but it might be wise to add additional button holes to the front of the cab before installing all your stuff, coin, exit & launch ball are what I have.
• Keep an eye on the monitor held in with glue, the shaker even tuned down is surprisingly strong and has rattled my monitors loose. 
• What's your plan on getting the legs on? I estimate my cabinet at 400-500lbs once i got all the gear installed!

I was going to purchase a real pinball and puked in my mouth when I saw how much these clowns jacked the prices up on 30 year old pins. So I built a vpin to end all and now that everything is working and I've had several non pin friends play it, it was worth the money and 100s of hours of effort. You will be very happy once its up and all the toys are working, ssf is tuned, etc. It still amazes me after six months or so of playing with it fully working.

1. you don't need those if you get a bit creative... i use the coin return buttons and good programming to only have a Start- and a Firebutton as external buttons

2. good advise!!!

3. like with classic pinballs (i avoid the term "real" nowadays as our VPins are real too)
I mainly do it with 2 workbench horses

@Raii: you should use the 2 screws on the backside of the backbox for the monitor rubber band, they're specially made for that purpose. Trust me, i dropped my playfield almost twice before realising for wath they're meant.

Thanks for the tip; I presume you mean like this.

By the way, my backbox 32" screen holder is attached backwards because the screen I chose has a tricky deep shape around the vesa mount area. This way I was able to gain some millimetres and fit the monitor in a bit better.

This is the right way.👍 The playfield holder with the monitor can actually stay up on its own. But the straps give you some extra peace of mind, so even if you accidentally bump into the cabinet while working on it, nothing’s gonna happen. This, of course, only works when the backbox is firmly attached to the main body with the supplied bolts. 🙂

Hi - I'm really enjoying watching your progress with this project. Thanks for making the effort to share.

I too am planning to get a cab from this supplier. Did you find a supplier of legs, lockbar and top rails that you are happy with? Tukkari will be supplying the Stern style black ones soon  and I may just order them with the cabinet, but my preference would be for the steel finish variety. I am based in the UK so getting supplies even from the EU is problematic, though I suppose at least a rigid cardboard tube would be necessary for shipping individually from any source. The best price I've seen for the Williams wide body steel lockbar in stainless is €118. https://pu-parts.com/williams-bally-widebody-stainless-steel-lockdown-bar.   They don't ship to the UK.....

There are quite a few pinball parts sellers in Germany and France (smallcab.net).

jk40001 listed a few good ones in the post below.

 

Check those out too and ask them if they could ship stuff to you.

Personally, I was somewhat hesitant to order from US (Cleveland Software Design) but that was a really good experience, troublefree and fast, just had to pay some extra for custom fees.

I did not know about the Tukkari black legs, now you got me interested. I will pretty surely order from Tukkari if those come available soon.

I am going to use black legs and black siderails and lockbar, my graphics will be quite light in contrast.

The first available will be TUKKARI siderails. I felt these are the most needed, as it is virtually impossible to find off-the-shelf siderails with button guards that fit perfectly. Btw., in-house decal printing service will be available from Monday September 22nd. already 🙂

Just ordered some nice fresh parts for my build.
Siderails and lockbar, both coming from Tukkari.
Also cabinet graphics being printed by Tukkari as well.
Graphics done amazingly nice by [email protected] in the other side of the globe of me, in Australia, thanks mate
 
Not many parts missing now; legs, coindoor and playfield glass.
And a good enough PC although most PC prices seem to be skyrocketing...
Will get back to building in a few days.

Eying the Tukkari flatpack myself. Interested to see how you mount those LED matrix panels in this for the parallel to glass mount if that is what you go with. I figured it would be possible to repurpose that black panel that screws to the top edge of the TV mount into a backboard for the matrix panels and then recess it with some brackets. Been also following way of the wrench and his build series. So I envision basically using that piece as the backer and mounting it like he did with his. That or buying the pinballcabinet.com mounting kit if that fits this cab since that has the routed wire slot.

I mounted the HD matrix similarly to the Way of the Wrench videos to my Tukkari cabinet. I made a wooden board with two strips at the top and installed the LED modules there. I also attached it with door magnets. The picture doesn't show the final version yet; I sand the top edge at an angle. Now, when I stand in front of the pinball cabinet, I can see the entire matrix. I ordered the plexiglass cover yesterday. Wiring and setting up the DOF will probably happen this weekend.
