Hi all,

Long time Linux user and brand new to Visual Pinball. Just downloaded v.10.8.0-2052

I can load up tables, but most of the keys don't do anything including `1` to start a game although `3` does make a coin sound.

Here are the key mappings that dump to the console.

Visual PinMAME keys:
F1 Game options...
F2 Keyboard settings...
F3 Reset emulation
F4 Toggle Display lock
F5 Toggle Display size
F6 Show DIP Switch / Option Menu
T Bang Back

Stern S.A.M. keys:
3 Insert Coin #1
4 Insert Coin #2
5 Insert Coin #3
7 Back
8 Minus
9 Plus
0 Select
Home Slam Tilt

Visual Pinball keys:
Left Shift Left Flipper
Right Shift Right Flipper
Left Ctrl Left Magna Save
? Right Magna Save
Enter Launch Ball
1 Start Button
5 Insert Coin 1
4 Insert Coin 2
Q Exit Game
T Mechanical Tilt
Z Nudge from Left
/ Nudge from Right
Space Nudge forward

Thanks for any ideas!

Press 5 to insert coins then 1-4 for number of players. The only other thing ive had to do on my Linux Mint desktop:

For Standalone - Added pinmame path to ~.vpinball/VPinballX.ini for it to find the roms and other files  (discovered this in 2023) so not sure if its still needed since pinmame is now a lib function.

Basically extract the linux standalone version and supply tables and roms for pinmame tables and the vbs scripts which are needed (3.6.1 is latest at vpforums).  There are tables that will fail due to VB script issues and you can check https://github.com/jsm174/vpx-standalone-scripts  to see if patches have been released.

Yeah, depending on what version of a table (vp 7,8,9,X) the table may work and it can either have a DMD for scoring which may not be on top, or integrated scoring on the screen.

You should have the best luck using VPX tables with standalone but they can still fail.  Just run from a shell and you can see the errors when crash occurs.

I started running under wine so dont use those .vpinball paths much as the folders exist in my visualpinball folder and it seems to use them 🙂

Nice to hear you figured it out.
