Supergibson Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 Hey everyone, I'm wondering if others feel the same way but we've noticed a trend in the last couple of years at least, that almost everyone rates every table release 5 stars when leaving reviews. I myself am also guilty of this but mainly just following what others are doing. This completely defeats the purpose of a start rating. Clearly, some tables are much better than others. But I get it, we want to encourage people to share their creations and they all have value in the community. I love checking out all releases and we all need to start somewhere but not everything is 5 star worthy. Is it worth doing anything? Trying to raise awareness? Or is every just ok with the stars having no real meaning. Or maybe, we just collapse the reviews and comments sections into one and drop star ratings altogether. Thoughts?
Precise Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 Peace, Stars are exactly what you make them. Stars awarded by a moron don't mean the same thing as stars awarded by a seasoned veteran or content creator. Also, stars don't necessarily indicate the quality of your work. Stars can also be an indicator of how many fans a person has. I've never given a rating less than five stars because if there's something wrong with the content, I put it in the comments and don't bother with the rating. Perhaps in the future an update will make me happy and at that point I'll give them 5 stars. Many times a lot of effort goes into these projects and I won't be the one to poop all over their work. This community is full of leeches who can't be bothered to even say thanks, so I'm certainly not looking for stars to gauge the quality of my work. I don't have a problem with stars, but after some time, I've learned that they don't necessarily mean what people think they mean.
Supergibson Posted March 25, 2025 Author Posted March 25, 2025 That makes sense. I am not one to poop all over anything and I'm well aware of all the hours/days/months/years it takes to create these tables. I'm thankful for all the amazing creations and just happy to be a part of this awesome community of creators. I am thankful that I get to create and help create such awesome things. I wasn't trying to be difficult. Perhaps I just need to shift my idea of what the stars mean.

I think you want solutions to a rating system that is flawed. Nothing wrong with that. I don't have the answers. Something as subjective as a rating system is bound to have a few knuckleheads that want to rate everything because they're neglected and don't get enough hugs. The only requirement to give a rating is that you download the content. The question that isn't asked is "why do you feel you are authority enough to even rate someone's work?" The person giving the rating doesn't have to tell anyone that they barely know what they're doing in this community and ain't never contributed anything but their opinion. How stupid would I look rating a VPW or a SGibson table less than 5 stars when I haven't made or modded a table ever? That's my point........
Administrators Dazz Posted March 26, 2025 Administrators Posted March 26, 2025 I really wish there was a way that I could fix this... It's difficult enough to try to get people to post specific topics to specific sections for those topics. Unfortunately, people are gonna people....
RabidUrko Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 If someone downloads someones work, some sort of worded review/comment isnt much to ask for the work they have done.
Gorgatron Posted April 27, 2025 Posted April 27, 2025 I like to leave reviews to let people know their efforts are appreciated. I don’t review everything and I try to say positive things. One difficulty I have is you only have one rating. Am I rating the work put in? For sure. Am I rating fun level? Yes, but …. Am I rating the table itself? Well, for recreations I might not be thrilled with the table but the recreation itself is well done. I don’t want to give a low rating for a table that I am not thrilled with — the work put into it is considerable and appreciated. Maybe a second rating on the fun & design of a table? Maybe a rating of fun & design with no review?
