Calafati Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 Hello there, I hope that someone of you can help me out with some advices. I am running VPX in desktop mode and have an actual running system consisting of VPX 10.8.0 / 64bit-Version VPinMame Version 3.6 Flex DMD / dmdtext Now I want to learn about PUP-packs, how to install and what mistakes to avoid. However - up to now I only found videos/instructions in which all in once was done from scratch as per Baller Installer for example (please excuse my bad English). But as I do have an already running setup I am a little bit scared of doing thins wrong and lose all this and I am interested in just to add the necessary components to my system, if possible. Are you able to tell me what to do in which sequence? By the way: I do not use any kind of backing-glass system up to now. Is this also necessary or will a dmd only be sufficient, too? I am very curious on the new RUSH-table, which is the final trigger for me to learn that right now. Many thanks in advance 😁 Best regards Klaus PS: please excuse for this complete other bonus question but does someone know wether it is possible (even on only one monitor) to place for example the table on the left half of the screen while backing glass (if there) and DMD will share the right half? Thanks sooo much in advance for your assistance!!!

I'm not going to give a class on pup installs but once you do get it installed and have unzipped the pup pack to your \PinUpSystem\PUPVideos\rush_le folder please download the additional desktop stuff I've attached here and unzip to the same folder. You do not need (or want!) a b2s backglass but you DO need to install the latest B2S Server and register it as it contains pinupplayer plugins required to make a pup pack work rush_le-pupstuff.zip
Calafati Posted March 19, 2025 Author Posted March 19, 2025 (edited) Many thanks for your quick answer, highly appreciated. 👍 I am eager to check this out tomorrow, unfortunately night here in Germany now 😉 May I ask another quick question: from time to time an already configured and working table has no sound (means music and speech, not the mechanical sound which is there every time) and I can´t figure out, why. I open the coin door, use the model specific buttons and balance the sound (something around 25 or 26). Some times it still works open the same table couple of days later, sometimes the table is quiet again. Is there a kind of save-button I´ve overseen? Again - many thanks for your always good answers. I always try to read before asking but I didn´t found an answer fitting to my problem, because I do not see any kind of regularity which gives a direction to me where to investigate. Cliffy Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 Others have had this problem although it is relatively a very recent problem. If I remember correctly you'll need to make the adjustments as you did before, hit end to open door, 8 or 9 to set volume and then move your mouse over the dmd, right click and save position for this table. Then close the door. I don't know why volume is tied to the dmd and I might be remembering wrongly
Calafati Posted March 20, 2025 Author Posted March 20, 2025 Many thanks for the advice concerning to the lost sound and the dmd-thing, I will check out this 👍 But again back to RUSH, PUPPacks and the B2Sserver, OMG, I get lost: 10 files here on the site for the b2sserver, but which one to choose?!? File posted from Jarr3 and 10 download options: they all sound so similar... And you wrote "but once you do get it installed and unzipped the pup pack to your \PinUpSystem\PUPVideos\rush_le folder"... Does this mean that there should be already a PinUpSystem(?)\PUPVideos-folder to place all this?! If so, there is none... Once again pardon for my sheer missunderstanding, I am absolutely not familar to this. I already downloaded and unzipped the rush-table itself as a first step but did not placed the content elsewhere up to now. Does this folder do not appear until installing the B2Sserver or do I have to install something other first? thanks for your patience in case you can invest a little more.
deadmanworking Posted March 20, 2025 Posted March 20, 2025 @Calafati if you don't have a PinupSystem folder, you haven't yet installed PupPlayer. This is a quite involved install and you need to follow very exactly the instructions by Nailbuster, first the prerequisites and then all steps necessary for a successful install. Be advised, if you miss a step it probably won't work and even if you follow everything to the letter it will still be a lot of wrangling, I guess especially if you have a 1-screen setup. The B2sserver is necessary to trigger the Puppacks and to update to the latest version, please refer to the B2Sserver section in the manual update guide.
Calafati Posted March 21, 2025 Author Posted March 21, 2025 Okay, so in total this sounds to be an absolute venturesome journey (for a beginner like me) 😁 BUT - one eventually very naive question: shouldn´t it be possible to set up a complete new (more professional) setup aside from the old constellation? I mean independent from consideration concerning storage space? Or does this causes conflicts between new and already installed components? At the moment the top of my folder system is the Visual Pinball Folder on C:/ Is it possible to set up all new from scratch following the instructions you sent me in a "Visual Pinball 2"-folder without endanger or causing damage on the existing setup? Just by try-and-eventually-error?
Tikimaster Posted March 21, 2025 Posted March 21, 2025 (edited) I think you can do that with a new virtual machine with a different/another System. But not in different folders on the same System. Edited March 21, 2025 by Tikimaster
deadmanworking Posted March 22, 2025 Posted March 22, 2025 @Calafati it absolutely is but if you follow all steps closely it's not unrealistic I don't see why you should need to set up a separate system for this, since you're basically just adding something on top and besides one line of text in dmddevice.ini and one checkbox in b2sserver you are not altering your core system in a fundamental way. It just makes it so that any table with a respective folder in the Pinupsystem/PUPVideos will use those files instead of a regular backglass, but if not you'll be playing the table in VPX just as before. (I still recommend a full backup of your Visual Pinball and VPinMAME folders and registry keys so you have a way back of something does go bad)
Calafati Posted March 23, 2025 Author Posted March 23, 2025 (edited) Hey all of you, First of all many thanks again for your instructions and encouraging. And above all for your patience! What I am highly appreciate - and especially in pinball forums - is, that a beginner can ask a "beginner question" without being instructed but introduced to the whole lot. I confess that I am near to give it a try but I have a question and the answer will have a big impact on the whole thing: often in Youtube, when a (real) table is introduced or explained you have that kind of "splitted screen" (by using several cameras) with the table itself for example in the left (complete) half of the screen in a nearly 100% top view, while the right half of the screen is again divided in an upper and a lower "half", where you can see the DMD and the backing glass. But as you normally can see especially the new tables mostly in cab-mode when introduced I simply cannot imagine how the later result (in case everything goes right) will look like in the desktop mode?! So my question is: is it possible in desktop mode to place the table as far as possible to the left (or right for sure) but still keep the game friendly "desktop angle" and NOT to switch in this "cab-mode-like top view"? When you for example take a look at "Safe Cracker", you have the table in the middle, the DMD on the left (which is okay as it is relatively small) and the backing glass, which is needed in game, on the right side, but unfortunately in a very reduced size. So in my amateurish understanding and missing knowledge it seems there is a lot of wasted space. I am toying with the idea of just place my screen just a little to the left or right to have the table itself again in a centered position and DMD and BG comfortably on one side. This would shift the whole to another level and will certainly will be worth all the efforts. Can you show me one or two examples what the result will look like? Eventually even for the Rush-Table itself? Again, many many thanks for all your helpful input. Have a nice weekend!!! Edited March 23, 2025 by Calafati
Cliffy Posted March 23, 2025 Posted March 23, 2025 sure. In edit mode toggle backglass view, click the camera tab and use a negative value to pull the table to the left. It will likely look skewed though. If the table is newer and runs in 10.8 you can do the same thing in the F12 menu on the table layout page
