Spacegoogie Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 I finally decided to pick up with a 30% off discount. I really like it. The different room. Would be nice to create your own room. My only problem is no matter what I do when I launch VPX it launches in Steam VR. I have everything switched to OpenXR runtime. Noe even with VD closed VPX still launches in Steam. How should I have VD setup? Am I missing something? I have not used steam VR for VPX in a while and would like to go back to OpenXR. An ideas or suggestions?🍻
Content Provider TerryRed Posted March 19, 2025 Content Provider Posted March 19, 2025 (edited) I am assuming you are using a Meta Quest / Pico? Your openvr_api64.dll in the VPX folder needs to be replaced with the Open Composite 64 bit DLL (and named the same). openvr_api64.dll Your OpenXR default needs to be set to VDXR. Your VD Streamer app needs to be set to VDXR. Edited March 19, 2025 by TerryRed
Spacegoogie Posted March 19, 2025 Author Posted March 19, 2025 Thanks @TerryRed im gonna give this a try.
Content Provider TerryRed Posted March 19, 2025 Content Provider Posted March 19, 2025 ...and make sure SteamVR was completely closed in case there was a session running.
Content Provider TerryRed Posted March 19, 2025 Content Provider Posted March 19, 2025 openvr_api.dll ...oh and don't forget to install the 32 bit Open Composite DLL into the VPX folder as well.
Spacegoogie Posted March 19, 2025 Author Posted March 19, 2025 I was under the impression the whole point of Virtual Desktop on Q3 was to eliminate the crappy Stream VR? I did reinstall Steam VR and it's no longer launching when I launch VPX. All is working right, the "Auto" switching for the runtimes under OpenComposit and Visual Desktop dont seem to work as I have to go in and change all of them manually, That sucks because I do mostly VPX but now and then I like to play American truck sim in VR and some others. I must have missed a memo somewhere lol. Thanks again @TerryRed for helping with that.

You are now not using SteamVR, but are using the Oculus / OpenXR runtime when replacing the DLLs. Not everything will work perfect with Open Composite, so that's why you need to set it per game. Ideally, you should be able to use the DLLs for most SteamVR games with no issue. The OpenComposite Launcher app may be able to do the same as well, but most don't use that, as its not perfect either. I do still have SteamVR installed, as it should act as a fallback for most games by default (if they don't have Open Composite DLL installed), even when leaving everything set to VDXR as the default. If you have anything like the OpenXR Toolkit installed... that can cause odd problems, so I keep that disabled / not running by default. Edited March 20, 2025 by TerryRed
doomeniko Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Thanks for all the great explanation. I'm still struggling with too much latency and I was wonderning if the error mentioned here is problematic. Does it prevent OpenComposite to work efficiently?
