bhudkins Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 I recently went through and updated all of my tables making sure I was running the most recent table and b2s, that sent me down a rabbit hole of upgrading my playfield and PC. Currently running a 1060 gfx card and a HD TV 60hz for the playfield. I have a smaller cabinet so I am using a 32 inch playfield. I got the below playfield monitor Acer Predator 31.5" UHD 3840 x 2160 IPS Gaming Monitor | AMD FreeSync Premium | 144Hz | Up to 0.5ms | HDR400 and this is the PC I landed on MotherboardMPG Z790I EDGE WIFI, Intel® Z790 Chipset, LGA 1700, Mini-ITX Motherboard ProcessorIntel Core™ i9-14900KF 24 (8P+16E) Cores 2.4 - 6.0GHz Turbo, LGA 1700, 253W MTP, Processor Video CardGeForce RTX™ 4070 DUAL-RTX4070-O12GD6-EVO, 2520 - 2550MHz, 12GB GDDR6, Graphics Card OverclockingOverclocking, Single GPU, Optimal and Stable Performance Memory32GB (2 x 16GB) Ripjaws S5 DDR5 5600MT/s, CL28, Black, DIMM Memory - TAA Compliant Power SupplySF750, 80 PLUS Platinum 750W, Fully Modular, SFX Power Supply Cooling CPU Cooling624S-M2 ARGB, 240mm Radiator, Liquid Cooling System - Performance Guarantee Thermal CompoundAS5-12G, 12g, 9 W/m.k, Grey Thermal Paste Storage Primary M.2 Storage2TB FURY Renegade, 7300 / 7000 MB/s, 3D TLC NAND, PCIe NVMe 4.0 x4, M.2 2280 SSD I did tons of reading on doing 4K @120HZ and I believe I should be good with the above setup, probably should have asked this prior to ordering everything but I should be good with this setup right? I notice on my existing setup I get stutter, trying to eliminate that all together and hoping this will do it. Thanks
darrinbrewer Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 (edited) its my understanding a i7 and 4070 are minimum for 4k 120hz play field and then 2 additional screens The 4070, i understand that, but id like to test a setup with a lesser CPU, my current builds were a 12th gen i5,and i moved to a 14th gen i3, with a rtx 4060, and i never go over 55% CPU usage on the i3, the whole pinball setup seems more "clock speed" dependant than how many cores you have. SilasVaughn Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 (edited) Yes, your new setup is excellent for 4K at 120Hz. The RTX 4070, i9-14900KF, and fast SSD should eliminate stutter and handle demanding VPX tables smoothly. Edit: I am happy for you Edited August 12, 2025 by SilasVaughn
bhudkins Posted May 16, 2025 Author Posted May 16, 2025 Yes, got my new rig finally and it all worked out well. Plays most everything at 4k 144, few tables I have dialed down to 4k 120 and all tables load in under 5 secs. Very happy!
