Hi there,

i really new to Visual Pinball. My setup i am using is a 2 2K monitor setup using the latest baller_installer.

Other specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
Geforce 3060Ti

32 GB RAM

all disks are flash

VPX details maxed out

My right monitor is in protrait for the playfield, the left one is in landscape and for the DMD only. Both monitors are 120Hz capable. When i play with Frame Pacing, set to max framerate 120 and prerender frames 0 i have a little bit of ball stutter on some tables, where "Special Force" is the worst one. Also the input delay ranges around 5-6 ms in some situations on this table (flashing red FPS counter when enabled via F11) - also noticeable when the lights start to flash after starting the table. When i set my playfield monitor refresh rate to 60 in the Nvidia Control Panel and set Frame Pacing max frame rate and prerender both to 0 the delay is between 0-1ms, getting a feeled more fluid play on not so many lags. I also disabled vSync in the Nvidia control panel and activated the ultra low latency mode. And this it what i really don´t understand.

Is have also read this https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vPb0u3jkt-Yf1pyStEQgfE9ypHRX9Ie9z6IdfotxwIQ/edit?pli=1&tab=t.0

Maybe someone can help me.

I would recommend to first update to the latest VPX8, VPinMAME and B2s server from last month. The VPinMAME update resolved stutter problems on a few tables for me.

Also do you have fullscreen / exclusive fullscreen mode enabled?

Stupid question maybe but both monitors are running from the GPU?

Thank you for your reply!

As i don´t want to break anything in the baller_installer eco system i will wait for the next update. I have window / fullscreen (not the exclusive one) enabled. Both monitors are on connected via DP on my GPU, yes.

Another stupid question, do you have the playfield running on 120 Hertz selected in VPX video settings? And do you have it set to 120 Hz in Windows display setup as well?

Setting the max framerate is not really necessary, can be left at 0 then.

Did you try any of the vsync modes and / or exclusive fullscreen?

Are you on Windows 10 or 11? Do you have Windows Defender running? Any other intensive applications open like Chrome?

Also maybe try inverting your screen setup i. e. Playfield left, backglass right, I recall that some components (don't remember which) don't like negative values for the backglass or DMD placement, might be worth a shot.

As for updates, totally understand the sentiment about not manually updating - I'm not familiar with the baller update schedule but you might be stuck with a not optimal setup for quite a while..

I can very much recommend tjaf's tutorial that gives very specific, foolproof pointers to each step of the update. Also do a backup copy of your VPX and frontend folders and the corresponding registry entries and there should be next to no risk in going the update route.
