shaker Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 Hi All; I'm going to replace the PC in my VP Cab in the next month or so. This might sound weird, but I'm having a hard time selecting a case for the PC. What are your thoughts or recommendations? I don't want an open-frame case, as I would probably drop a screw or a drop of solder on the exposed motherboard. I'll probably get a Micro-ATX motherboard. I have 2 intake vents in the coinbox area, and 2 exhaust fans in the head, so air is drawn all the way through the cabinet. Thanks for your advice! - Mark
Thalamus Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 I should not give you advice - because, I do actually run without a case. I just tripped apart an old ATX that was heavy and sturdy and tucked it in - far back with a couple of screw. I agree, there is a higher chance for breaking something. But, I'm aware of this fact. Added benefit, easier to clean, and I believe at least it i running cooler this way. As long as you are able to keep it separate from other stuff, you will be fine, and can make a square wooden frame around it. It would almost give it the same protection you're looking for. This machine is after all, most of the time inside a huge box in the first place.
shaker Posted February 6, 2025 Author Posted February 6, 2025 @Thalamus: Thank you for your advice! True Confessions: A while ago I did get a drop of solder on my KL25Z. I thought it was DOA, but luckily I was able to pop the solder off the board. - Mark
