ROM-based volume adjustments not saving in VPX

So on a bunch of tables (stargat3.zip being the one in question, but also Robocop '89, etc.) the way to change the volume is:

1. F1 to open the VpinMAME menu
2. Turn on the default DMD
3. F3 to restart the table to show DMD, alt-tab to it and press the ~ key
4. Arrow keys to adjust volume
5. ~ again to close

 

That's all well and good but works great, but it's not saved when I restart the table. Is there something I'm missing here, an extra step that will commit it to NVRAM or what have you?

Nba, I was struggling with this for a while too, try after your last step:

 

6. right-click on DMD, select Game Settings (same dialog like hitting F1, but the key doesn't work in this case) and then without changing any checkboxes or values press "OK".
