Administrators Wildman Posted January 23, 2025 Administrators Posted January 23, 2025 Time to up the game on my vpin. been building backglasses since 2013 and the only thing that I hated was the size of the backglass, the 16:9 look on 32 in monitor. It just looks funny next to my real pins. Im a 70s ,80s , 90s pin guy so I decided to build a new pin with the correct size BG. and this is what I have so far it uses 42 in and 55 in monitors and it close as I can get it to the real thing.. I cant wait to finish it, lot of work to go .. I will post pics when its done untill then heres a short vid of what it looks like right now..
Content Provider Schlabber34 Posted January 23, 2025 Content Provider Posted January 23, 2025 Nice!!! What is that, a 16:9 monitor stuffed in there in portrait position? I thought about doing that with the monitor sticking out the top of the backbox for a topper screen. But in portrait the monitor is so high, that you can't have a DMD area with speakers. Without speakers you can do DMD, translite and then topper on one monitor. But i'm an 80's kid, i need the speakers. Or two VPin cabs...............
Curse Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 Damn, that does indeed look awesome! Things to keep in mind when I finally build one.

I dont want toppers newer dmd like stern crap,,just BG and slim dmd.. I dont need to see speakers but when I do i can use 2scr BG to see that... my main goal is to have it look like a real 70s 80s pin to match the real pins it sits next to 😉👍

This is excellent stuff here. I try to make up my mind how my full size cab should look in the future. I'm also not too much into those modern Sterns, but i want to be able to play all 80's tables and maybe early 90's with the biggest possible BG. Especially for tables like Blackout, Elvira, High Speed aso. Tables like Diner already had a speaker panel and i also want to be able to play Medieval Madness or Cactus Canyon. I still don't know how to make this a all in one solution.
Thalamus Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 I went from a 60Hz 4k PF to a new 120Hz Oled. I might re-use that old PF monitor which is 53" wide, getting the BorgDog setup. But, currently, It's a regular 2k 60Hz where I've made two different templates. One for old backglasses set to 1.18:1 ratio and another one that just looks good. Admit though, yours looks better @Wildman - partly I guess, because of the virtual DMD. I still have my old real one and I'm torn between getting me a dedicated screen for virtual dmd or this 4k BorgDog solution turning the monitor 90 degree and just cover the unused areas.
WaRcLaWz Posted January 29, 2025 Posted January 29, 2025 The full-sized illusion is outstanding. Looking good @Wildman!
Administrators Wildman Posted February 10, 2025 Author Administrators Posted February 10, 2025 Just a quik update cab painted and starting the build...
PLCJim Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 What are you doing about the sound that would be coming from the backbox speakers. That is something that I am puzzling about right now with having a two monitor setup like this.

Im installing SSF also.. still looking around for options
Administrators Wildman Posted February 11, 2025 Author Administrators Posted February 11, 2025 These might be my choice with subwoofer https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Outdoor-Speakers-Surface-Powersports/dp/B074CJ7G57/ref=asc_df_B074CJ7G57?mcid=0d22e893ca283cdba29337dbfeae426f&hvocijid=8590395983051076223-B074CJ7G57-&hvexpln=73&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=730312820598&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8590395983051076223&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9001644&hvtargid=pla-2281435178538&th=1
PLCJim Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 Clever, a nice manufactured enclosure. Might be useful if you are playing White Water and you go overboard, too.
Administrators Wildman Posted February 24, 2025 Author Administrators Posted February 24, 2025 So cab is finished just waiting for glass. heres some pics of it ... these are great for the gear motor sound, they are for kids toy cars and stuff. just cut apart and then its clean and flat, then you can mount it to the side of cab, even has the mounting holes and wow it is nice and loud. this it what it sounds like and another vid of the strobes i used for beacons, I like them cause there small and bright..https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fp9e4VEtrDU and heres the strobes https://www.youtube.com/shorts/o0XMlETMw8E
Thalamus Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 Hah ! Finally, a guy with the same cable management skills as me ❤️ Kidding - looks great mate !
Animusan2 Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 I hope will post pictures of finished product with a video of some games ! Great job.
KrakenByte Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 Excellent and so impressive work here!!! 🤩 Only one little question about your buttons, which don't seem to be leaf switches, aren't they? What are they, then? I'm interested because I always spend time fixing my flippers' leafs, and it's a pain. Thanks in advance. Anyway, awaiting more photos, crazy and amazing well done job! Cheers!!!
Thalamus Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 @KrakenByte ??? Problems with the leafs ? I'm not a super fan of Noah. But, I admit that his https://virtuapin.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=40 is very good. I never had any issues with that set. Ages since I bought them now and never had to adjust. But, it MIGHT be that you need his flipper buttons as well ?! I bought these ages ago and never had to look for something else ... so, idk.

Cheers!!! switches and most of the components come from here https://www.clevelandsoftwaredesign.com/pinball-parts Highly recomended I love all his stuff, have had zero issues Phil knows his shit and his products are good quality. The buttons are RGB Leaf Buttons I like them no issues with them, I had real leaf on last cab and these are not bad at all ..https://www.clevelandsoftwaredesign.com/pinball-parts/p/rgb-leaf-button

In fact, I bought his buttons, exactly that item you said, a few years ago for upgrading another build I did (an old control panel with pinball buttons that initially was micro switched style), and I must say that it was a good product, but Noah only have them in two colors: red and white (I bought the red ones). Finally, when I built the cabinet, it changed from "building it from scratch project" to a "restoration / conversion project" of a virtual pinball starting from an oldie machine TWILIGHT ZONE (Bally 1993, you know) and... which has YELLOW buttons. So, looking for high fidelity, I went to classic leaf switches, but they're a real pain because with crazy use come crazy adjustment maintenance times and I want to spend my spare time playing but not fixing things.

That's a good advice too. I'm really curious about the highly acclaimed gold coated micro leaf switches, it seems that they're very famous and people said that you can have a great control with flipper buttons. I also found similar products near Europe like https://www.ultimarc.com/arcade/buttons/goldleaf-pushbuttons/ , but I wonder if their performance worths it or not. Maybe I'll give them a try!
