Hi all!

I have been using VPX for some time, both on a PC via single monitor, and a dual monitor mini cabinet I made myself (including a Pinscape board).

I had always planned to build a full sized cabinet, but due to changes in my housing situation, simply cannot fit a full sized cab anywhere in the house.

So, I've decided to play using VR instead. I will build a controller box to house the flipper buttons etc. and reuse the Pinscape board, but will hook it up to a new PC dedicated to the VR setup.

I have just ordered a new PC and Quest 3 headset for (mainly) playing VPX VR. I've been (and will continue to) watching and reading a lot of howto videos, info etc. on the setup of Baller, VPX, Oculus, SteamVR etc., but I have a just a couple of questions at this point (I'm sure more will follow!).

1. I know that some of the tables released include a VR room with the table. Does this mean that the table must include a VR Room for VR play, or can you play any VPX table as a VR table, with some sort of standardised VR Room interface?

2. Do you need to play VR VPX with the headset tethered to the PC, or can you use a wireless connection?

3. If using WiFi, is there any performance degradation?

4. I have seen some video (can't remember where, and did not save it), which seemed to show a large row of VR pinball machines lined up as a sort of launcher. I liked the look of this. Does Baller do this if run in VR, or does anyone know what software is used to create the VR pinball arcade?

Many thanks for any help provided...

Best regards, and greetings from Down Under!

Hi Robert,

1. You can play any VPX table in VR but if it does not have a VR Room (been optimized for VR) then you could be missing the backglass, cabinet and or the DMD.
2. You can play tethered to the PC (like I do) or play wireless using Meta Air Link or Virtual Desktop.
3. If you have a strong wifi signal, or even better, a dedicated wifi 6e router for the Quest, you probably won't see any difference (some say it's even better)....especially if using Virtual Desktop with all of it's options.

4. You can use Popper as a front end for your VR play by using the alternate launcher feature....or you can use the VPX Launcher (by BaSti) as a front end.

Thank you, Studly!

My Quest 3 has arrived, and I'm getting used to it. Just waiting for the PC to arrive to drive it (early this week hopefully).

I've read and watched heaps more since posting, along with your helpful advice, and I'm feeling more confident about the setup now.

Thanks again, mate!

cheers

EDIT to below

Okay, I am back to working sound again now!

It seemed that there was a Steam audio device (I think the microphone) under the Windows audio device control panel app which had somehow become disabled. I could only see it if I loaded the (old style) Windows Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Manage Audio Devices.

On the RECORDING tab, the INTERNAL AUX JACK (Steam Streaming Speakers) - See Attached screenshot - was disabled. Re-enabling this re-enabled audio in VPX / Quest 3.

Okay, Studly...I think I'm going to go crazy here...

I have had much success playing awesome VR versions of some of my favourite old pinballs on many occasions.

HOWEVER...

I have it seems never ending problems with audio when using the Quest 3 headset.

I am running the latest VPXGL 10.8 build.

I am running VPX via SteamVR.

I have the Quest 3 connected via a 3rd party link cable (JSAUX).

I had headset audio while playing for an extended period, and then it seemed to just stop working. It was flaky before I got the Link cable, when playing over AirLink.

I did have VPX Launcher running fine earlier, but I've gone back to standalone VPX while trying to nut this out...

I've tried so many different settings, deleting devices and re-adding them, etc.

Now I'm at a point where I just can't get VPX audio through the Quest 3 at all, doesn't seem to matter what I try.

If I switch the audio device to my TV (I'm setting up and testing in the loungeroom), I get VPX audio through the TV HDMI connection just fine. If I switch back to Steam Streaming Speakers and Microphone, I get ZILCH!

Are there any suggestions you might have regarding this. I'm slowly going round the twist trying to get this resolved and reliable...

cheers

Robert

Sorry just noticed this, I don't use Steam VR for VPX so I can't comment on how it works...or doesn't. That said, be sure to check your audio settings in both the VPX options and the Meta PC App, pic attached for the Meta App

New to this (not VR) and have a VR Pin Cabinet on order.
I clicked on the link at top but I see it is expired. Is there a new Discord link available?
Thank you!
