rafaitapema2 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 hey guys! What is the best way for me to transfer my pinup popper installation to another computer without losing the tables, and the dmd positions? Can anyone recommend a video or tutorial? I didn't find anything on the internet that actually worked correctly. thanks
Rappelbox Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 it's (thankfully) not possible to copy&paste a complete installation. there are lots of programs and settings involved, registry keys to be set, dependencies and such. if you only want to copy the vpx dmd positions, those info would be stored in the dmddevice.ini, but only if you're using dmdext (dmddevice.dll). if using the internal dmd from vpinmame then the settings and positions are stored in the windows registry. if this is already too much input then you understand why it's so complicated.
kiloNova Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 Hypothetically, isn't it possible to run the all-in-one PinUP Baller Installer, then copy/paste an existing install/library over the top? As long as the same/default directories are used, I would assume that all the registry keys should be pointing to the correct locations.
chonk_master Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 yeah its essentially a copy paste. for popper anyway, just take a backup of the db and then restore it on the new machine, copy all the files over and it should work. once I'm finished with my cab I plan on coming up with a way to backup the install. Right now I keep everything on my nas like on vpu, but I've had to reinstall and copying each table and backglass, etc to the proper folders is time consuming, however taking a copy of everything in the install directory is not space efficient on my nas. I think the solution lies in an open source backup app that can store data efficiently like an enterprise solution. I just haven't had the time.
Content Provider pritch33 Posted February 24, 2025 Content Provider Posted February 24, 2025 If your screen order in Windows is different, you will run into issues but copy across databases, games and media. Even if you have to change screen setup it should take about 10 minutes to set emulators and popper.
