Turnbull Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) stupid me! I've made the biggest fail a man can do: I've updatd my well running system to newer versions. i've just updated from the previous to the lastes versions to VPinMAME-3.6.0-1122 VPinballX-10.8.0-2015-6f63503-Release-win-x64 (RC 5) no big jumps, just coming from the previous versions (RC4). Now i've noticed, that all my tables using an alias ROM name will not start anymore. VPX just throws an script error (cGameName not found ... or similar...), so obviously the VPMAlias is not processed anymore. Anyone has a clue what has changed? Or is it a bug? I'm thankful for every help Edited November 24, 2024 by Turnbull
Tikimaster Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 This happens normally if someone has overwritten his old vpmalias. Check it and take the old one from your backup..
Turnbull Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 yes, that was the problem. thanx Tiki When updating vpinmame, i skipped the alias file, but in some magic way it was overwritten. backup solved the prob 🙂
digitalarts Posted October 31, 2025 Posted October 31, 2025 No Default Backup - it's Up to you to do this. BEFORE you do any updates or Changes. As a hint, when installing/unzip a new vpinmame Version, never overwrite YOUR vpmalias.txt

As a hint, when installing/unzip a new vpinmame Version, never overwrite YOUR vpmalias.txt at least with the latest vpinmame updates they have taken out the vpmaliast.txt in the zip so no more fear of overwriting any existing file. Nevertheless, of course I always keep a relatively recent backup of critical files like vpmalias.txt, b2stablesettings.xml, dmddevice.ini et al
