Our #1 rule of this hobby is that you DO NOT DOWNLOAD any packs that include tables, roms, or other media. DO NOT PURCHASE or pay for any links to download, or pre-loaded hard drives. These are against the hobby rules and are outdated before you even receive it. It is recommended to just start out and download only what files you need for that specific game. Don't download tons of games as it only causes confusion when starting out. There is a lot to the hobby of digital pinball simulation. Many different setups, from single screen and Virtual Reality, to full-sized cabinets with multiple screens and full force feedback systems. It can be very daunting to a new person just looking to get setup... Personally I'd start with the Pinup Popper Baller Installer. Pinup Popper is a frontend for navigating your games to play, but it installs and helps setup the necessary MULTIPLE pieces of software needed. This page should have everything you need to get installed and running quickly. https://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=baller_installer Understand that MOST tables require multiple files to be downloaded... Table / .VPX file - this is the main table PinMAME Roms - For MOST tables you will also need the ROM. The ROM is the software that is dumped from the original game boards from the machines. B2S / DirectB2S - These are the backglass files for the individual game. I highly suggest watching some of the videos on the linked page above. Also, Youtube is an excellent source of information. We have some amazing creators in this hobby.
rockyb Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 If you go on youtube and search "vpx setup" there is some helpful tutorials.

Not if you study tutorials it isnt. So because you might have issues you are saying to others not to bother pffffff I struggled myself when i first got my cabinet 2 years ago and it took several months of absorbing loads of info and videos to watch, but now its easy overall. Nothing new at first is easy. Edited September 26, 2024 by RabidUrko

This really isn't a good answer at all... Not helpful in any way. There is plenty of help around for those that seek it.
Digitalnightfall Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Hi, Jeffexit7, I used the guide on vpforums.org. Check out the "getting started" tab on upper left of page. I read through whole thing a couple times before starting. Ha, I don't remember if I took the blue pill or the red pill before I jumped in!

Beyond playing some tables that you can't play anywhere else and being free, there is no other advantage over say, pinball fx or fx3. In fact same tables on the latter are way more dynamic and spectacular. Also sound better etc. I understand the appeal of vpx , don't get me wrong but is just not worth it.

Like @Dazz said, "There is plenty of help around for those that seek it." For people who don't know anything about computers, and don't know how to ask for help, then maybe FX would be best for you. VPX blows away all other Virtual Pinball programs, and all of the tables in this pinball community are made for the love of pinball, not like others who only push out tables for the almighty dollar. Just because you don't have the time to learn how everything works on VPX, doesn't make it less than another pinball program, or "just not worth it". If you lack basic computer skills, it is not the pinball programs fault. Ask for help. There are many in this community who always help others with any problems they may come across. IT IS WORTH IT! Carry on. Edited October 2, 2024 by xenonph put words in BOLD

Most will not share your opinion. Pinball FX tables are fun but they are nothing like the real world tables that can be created with VPX, i could bite forever with this but ill leave it at that.
onedevotee Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 FX3 is crap compared to VPX in every matter. Setting up VPX is pain if you are new to it and emulators in general, but after a while it becomes second nature. For the thread opener..... try this one
Hypnotoad Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 For software, start with the PinUp Baller Installer. Read a little about it first. It includes most the components you need. It also includes a sample table or two. After that, learn how to add a table. Learn where to download, what B2S Backglass files are, what PUP packs are, what ROM files are and where all those files should be located. Learn where the settings are as well as keyboard mappings. Play around but make backups. Don't grow too big until you understand the system.
ElJulo Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 You can do it ! Just focus on install vpx and vpinmame. Download vpx, extract, same for vpinmame, install set setup paths. Dowload tables, unzip, put in tables folder. Launch vpx, set your controls in preferences, set your video settings if needed. click open, select your tables in table folder, click Table then play => done ! Table options with F12, navigate with flips and magna saves buttons. Set your cam if u need, press 1 to save. F12 again for quit option menu. press 9 then End Then 9 or 8 for adjusting the rom volume if u need No need to get into flex dmd or more complicated stuff. The basics is very simple to set up and you have plenty of tables to play (from 70's to 90's ) Enjoy !
