dmd on top in cabinet mode single screen, possible?

Hi guys, I want to play with just one screen in cabinet mode with a dmd on top but failing miserably, as it will only show text hoizontally.  Using popper dmd no mater how I rotate it, text is always horizontal. And launching from visual pinball, I dont see any way to rotate it so is always horizontal. I though this would surely be an easy thing to do but Im doubting now if it is even possible in the first place. 

Any advice?  Thank you in advance !
