OK, so I have spent over an hour working on this tonight.    I have several versions of High Speed by Williams.   Each and every one want the hs_l4 rom.   Went to play the table, and I get no audio from the gamma.   Plunger flippers etc all work, just not the rom audio.  deleted the nv for the rom, to reset to factory default, still no sound.    Downloaded the rom from various places on the net (including here) and replaced the rom I had, and same thing.   Here is where it gets interesting.....

If I edit the script and tell it to use hs_l3 (earlier version) or hs_l4 (competition mod) sound plays fine!!!    There has got to be a working L4 out there somewhere, because in each comment section on the table downloads not 1 person is saying they are having a problem with sound, and as I mentioned, each table, the authors all prefer the ls_h4 rom.    I am stuck.   HELP!!!  I seem to remember years ago in the early days of Visual Pinball there were some defective roms and sound did not work.  I am pushing 60, memory is not as good as it was, so I do not remember what tables, but Williams tables do ring a bell..........

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I've confirmed that all code and sound roms are present and accounted for.

Check your VPM Game Options (F1 after you launch the table) have Use Sound checked and Alt. Sound Mode (0-3) set to 0.

Thank you for the file.   Sadly, it is still not working.   I got the plunger, flippers, bumpers etc, but no rom.   Soon as I go into the script and changed it to l3 or l4c, it works fine.  Deleted the hs_l4 nv file to reset to factory defaults and still no dice.   This make NO SENSE.    I have no idea why this is happening.  It defies logic!!

I don't know. If you have l4c working then that would be the most advanced code base anyway. It will deliver the best experience. The sound roms would be exactly the same as l4. Just use that set:

Release note

Changes

Vacant menu adjustment 51 is now "Lit inlane". Options: "Stay" (default) and "Once".
Stay: Inlane awards stay lit when collected.
Once: Inlane awards unlight when collected.

Vacant menu adjustment 52 is now "Jackpot". Options: "Progressive" (default), "500K", "750K", "1M" and "1.5M".
Progressive: Jackpot increment rule as standard. But it is player individual and resets at start-of-game.
Points: Fixed jackpot at designated value.

Some refinements to sound bites on inlanes, orbits, fun-with-bonus and match.
Inlanes give an audio cue when the kickback is lit.

Why it rocks

Progressive jackpot as designed by Demar/Richie. But refined for competition play.
Optionally fixed jackpot.
New inlane option is effectively a harder kickback rule.
Progressive jackpot, that also carries to next multiball on failed collect, offers more strategies to the game.

Note

The jackpot resets to 250K at start-of-game and on collect. Increment with scoring during multiball play. Tops at 2 million.
Lit orbit shot lights the inlanes. Lit inlane awards 20K and lights the kickback.

SirScotty I am having the exact same issue.  Let me know if you figured it out.   And yes, this version is totally awesome!!!  My father has a real High Speed machine and I have spent countless hours on it.  This emulation feels and plays exactly like the real thing.  It is so amazing...nice job and thank you!

I suggest you first audit your hs_14.zip file with the PINMAME Setup.exe to make sure that you have the sound roms (and they pass the PINMAME audit State = OK)

hs_u21.l2

hs_u22.l2

hs_u4.l2

if you are using the clone roms hs_13 or hs_14C.  You still need to have the (complete) hs_14 rom in your folder.

(unless you went the unorthodox way and decided to have merged roms instead of split roms)

Thanks Pinballuser!  I tried all those suggestions and everything checked out...still no sound.  AND THEN I FIGURED IT OUT!

For me it was the common issue with the sound being routed to the center channel. For my 7.1 SSF setup there is no center channel, so I had to send the center channel output to the left and right channels.  The solution is to install the EqualizerPro software and tweak the config to move sound to the L/R channels.

This link details the issue best:https://sourceforge.net/p/equalizerapo/discussion/general/thread/d1b17012aa/

This link details how to install the software and edit the config: https://pinball-docs.clevelandsoftwaredesign.com/docs/ssf/troubleshooting
