bthlonewolf Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 I can record all my screens ok (video), but was trying to record audio as well. It looks like there are options to record audio in the bat files, but unsure exactly what to set —anyone have info on how to properly set it up so the audio of the playfield is captured? Thanks!!
bthlonewolf Posted June 30, 2024 Author Posted June 30, 2024 Got it working! I'm not on my cab writing this, but in case anyone else is trying to do this -- I had a Realtek Stereo Mix audio output that was disabled -- enabling that allowed ffmpeg to capture the audio. Easily enabled under sound devices in the control panel, but of course each setup is unique. The name of the device has to match what is in the recordstart bat file and then RecAudio variable to match the playfield. As mentioned on the Pinup site, the log files will detail any error messages.
cheese3075 Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 @bthlonewolf Can you add some screenshots? I'm having trouble finding out what variable it's looking for wen it comes to the audio capture device.

Basically you go into control panel -> sound settings, and click Manage Audio Devices. On my Recording tab, the Stereo Mix was disabled. Enabling this fixed the issue for me, hope it works for you!
demoric Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Thanks. I was trying to figure out why audio wasn't recording and was gonna try to write some audio record script. This saved a bunch of time, thank you for sharing!

Sorry to come to this years later, I don't know if you'll even see this, but I'm hoping to ask for a little help. I've done the same checks you have and indeed, I also had a disabled Realtek Stereo Mix which I've now enabled. I checked the recordstart.bat and the name seems to match, but I'm still not getting any audio recorded when I try. I think the issue I'm having is that I don't really understand the bit where you've said about setting the 'RecAudio variable to match the playfield'... how do I do that? As far as I can tell, the variable I have matches the one in @demoric's reply image - it says RECAUDIO=-1, which I don't know if it's correct or not. Is this what I'm getting wrong? Or have I missed something else? Any help gratefully received, thank you! Edited April 1 by MartyBarty
bthlonewolf Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 Hmmm I’m not really sure- maybe try ‘3’ for recaudio? Unfortunately I don’t recall what the settings are for. You may need to turn the volume up quite a bit as well and see if you can hear it…
MartyBarty Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I've fiddled and tried all the things that would make sense - specifically, trying to match the number to a screen (for me, 3=playfield, 2=backglass, 1=FullDMD). I also tried both positive and negative numbers, because the default appears to be -1 and that seems weird. I recorded footage from all three screens with each variable, and... nothing. I don't get it. I even made sure the Stereo Mix was set to the default device, since it wasn't previously. So, I'm stumped. Hmm.
deadmanworking Posted April 3 Posted April 3 If it's just about recording the audio into an audio file (not the video), you can use Audacity to record the audio stream. Select WASAPI as the audio host and the number of channels you are running (8 for 7.1 audio, etc) and you'll get an audio recording of each channel which you can then export as a combined file (mp3 or ogg or what have you)

Yeah honestly wish there was some actual info around on how to setup what is in these files, rather cryptic and impossible to figure out when it doesnt work
MartyBarty Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Yeah, it's a shame. I think I'm going to go down the Audacity route, since I installed that recently and it seems to do the job. I just need to record the sound at the same time as the playfield, so I'll just set up an auto record session in PuP and then manually start/end Audacity in the background every time. Will take a while, but... ehh, it is what it is. When it's done, it's done.
