Flipper lag when using game controller

I'm getting flipper lag over 1 second when playing vpinball with a game controller.   Flipper will also stick occasionally.  Flippers respond fine if I use the keyboard.  Anybody have ideas what could be causing this issue?   My apologies if this has been covered in other thread.

No idea what setup you're running but if running in windows you should go to vpx preferences, keys nudge and dof and set the input api to xinput

Running Batocera v38 setup.   You inspired me to take another look and I figured out that the lag goes away if I use the R1/L1 buttons instead of R2/L2.  Problem solved.
