Octom Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 NBA fastbreak, T3, Circus Voltaire, Big Guns to name a few. The DMD games are fine, but during the segments with physical stuff, the backglass animation is so fast/choppy it's basically indecipherable and just looks like a glitch. Actually playing these parts with any precision is pretty much impossible. I have a 2 screen setup, and the backglass monitor does likely have a lower refresh rate than the playfield, though idk why it would cause this level of chop. Any ideas?
MauiPunter Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 These issues generally boil-down to needing a more powerful GPU, possibly CPU, and possibly more memory. I am not having these issues running on a 4070ti, [email protected], and 64G of memory. I am not sure how to fine-tune backglass performance the way you can fine-tune table performance with many configuration settings.
Octom Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 (edited) Hmm. I'm only running at 1080pb (minicab), but it is an old system. i5-2500k, 980 ti, 16 gb ram. I feel like the 980 ti should be fine to handle it? So maybe a cpu bottleneck. Edited June 11, 2024 by Octom
MauiPunter Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Very possible. I do know those backglasses take up a lot more resources since they are more interactive. There are a couple that even make my system stutter a little. Have you tried playing "Catacomb"? That one is fun but sucks up a lot of juice.
Octom Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 Welp, guess I'll just have to ignore it or stick to other tables for now. Though it's strange to me that the pinball game itself, or FPS games like Overwatch, can run fine - but a couple bouncing balls on the backglass is unplayable? I suppose maybe B2S wasnt originally optimized for physics stuff? As it's usually just static screens and the DMD. /shrug
stevejones72 Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I'm currently working on some updates to B2S with the help of Scottacus and Jarr3, that should help with these kinds of issues. 1) Adding in a UI thread for the updates from VPX so VPX isn't stalled as B2S updates will help with the stuttering 2) Making the rendering much more efficient in it's drawing will allow for more updates per frame for busy backglasses to render reasonably. Stay tuned, the changes will need a lot of testing, so your help with these kinds of tables will be very important! Thanks!

Wow - this is going to be a huge boost to the community and solve a lot of problems for people who have historically encountered issues. Thank you so much for your work with this.
