daidavel Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I have a Legends Pinball with BSA's Haptics upgrade kit. I'm used to a lot of tables having all sounds set to "table" and getting sounds I don't want coming out of the haptics, so I follow standard procedure of opening sound manager and reassigning non SFX sounds to backglass (completely closing out of VPX and re-launching before testing). With a lot of new tables I'm noticing this doesn't work anymore ... the backglass setting is ignored and the sound still comes out of the table (haptics). For example, the new Dick Tracy table ... I don't think there is anything wrong with that table in particular, but it has a good clean sound list and makes a good example. On that table I find if I assign everything to backglass, then the sounds do in fact all come out of the backglass as expected. However when I try to mix and match as needed between table and backglass, I'm back to getting ignored and the sounds come from the table for sounds that are assigned to backglass. Ultimately I found that these 5 fx files make the difference. If they are set to "Backglass", all good. If they get changed to "Table" then other sounds (e.g. Intro), while they still say backglass, come out of the table. I think these are the only FX files that have a different import path than the others, but I don't think that really make a difference. Anyone have any idea whats going on ? I'm current using VPX RC3 ... should I raise a bug on Github ? I'm surprised I haven't seen a ton of other complaints, but I know from the Dick Tracy comments section that at least @henrywolf and @Curse both had the same issue. If either of you guys are interested in trying the settings pictured please let me know if you get the same result. Thanks!

Thank you very much Daidavel, by changing these 5 parameters and assigning it to the backglass I was able to solve the problem. Now the music and voices come out of the backglass speakers. I really appreciate the help. A hug and thank you very much again.
daidavel Posted May 14, 2024 Author Posted May 14, 2024 Cool, thanks for checking!!! So yeah, it certainly makes things better for this particular table, but also confirms there must be some kind of bug here ... The open question is why do the settings for those 5 sounds have any bearing on where the other sounds output ? 🤔

The open question is why do the settings for those 5 sounds have any bearing on where the other sounds output ? 🤔 Exactly, I'm also surprised that this happens. On other tables when you change it it works, but on some they ignore the order. In this one, for example, I changed the music to the backglass and it didn't work, and changing these parameters that you mentioned does work. You could post the solution in the comments of the table, since you found it yourself. People will appreciate it and so will the author. Again, thank you very much daidavel 🫶

It definitely seems to behave like a bug, that is for sure. I'd say it couldn't hurt to report. This issue has been driving me nuts on certain tables forever now. I've had some success with exporting the audio and converting it to a different format and then re-importing, but that method has not proven to be completely reliable either. I will def give this a go and let you know if it works. Cheers! **Update** Worked like a charm! Thanks @daidavel! Are you having the same issue on the DUNE table by any chance? That was another new one I had this issue with. I'm gonna go mess around in the sound manager for that table now that I see what you did here. Hopefully I can solve that one. Cheers! daidavel Posted May 15, 2024 Author Posted May 15, 2024 Cool, glad that helped you with this table too! Yup, issues with Dune ... and Marty's new MIB table too. I suppose I'll try the first step of assigning ALL to Backglass on these, and if that works to get everything to backglass, start changing sounds I want to table in batches of 5 or so until I come across the "problem" sound/sounds. Kind of a time consuming pain though, and not really a solution of course. It seems like there is an open bug in Github that I think is this same issue. I added my comments to it ... https://github.com/vpinball/vpinball/issues/982
