Table editor closing when i exit a table

I have two cabs, i installed the latest 10.8 on both and do not use a frontend. I start the tables from the tables folder. On one cab when i close a table the editor stays open which i like and the other cab when i exit a table the editor is closed . how do i make the editor stay open after i exit a table. Thanks
