About This File

It's Mario Time !

Here’s my colorized version of this really cool table 😉

Purists, feel free to look away 😅. I made something that I liked above all else, and I had a lot of fun doing it.

Thanks to the Serum community on Discord, and thanks to @mk47 for the new features added to the format.

The smb3.cROMc file must be placed in the altcolor\smb3 directory. This directory should contain only this file.

The colorization works with the smb3 rom in English.

⚠️ Prerequisite: ⚠️

  • DMDExt v2.5.0 mini must be installed. This version includes the new Serum library v2.6.0, which is required to use this colorization. HERE
  • You must delete the serum.dll and serum64.dll files that may be present in the VPinMAME directory if they are older than v2.6.0.
  • Ensure using latest C++ distr. : https://aka.ms/vc14/vc_redist.x64.exe

Enjoy!

Just added the file and gave it a spin. Everything is running flawlessly so far. Are there still any known color glitches to look out for?

Thank you so much for putting the work into this!

With over 600+ tables in my library, it is easy for a few gems to slip through the cracks over time. Because I strictly play in VR, I have noticed my skill is significantly better within an immersive space. I booted up the Super Mario Bros. table and completely forgot how fun it is.

I actually played my absolute best game ever on it! I was paying so much attention to the new DMD colorization (which is the whole point, right?) that by the time I looked at my score, I was already past 30 million. I locked in, kept an eye on the DMD, and finished with a high score that landed me the #2 spot on the leaderboard!

If you hadn't released this colorization, I probably wouldn't have booted up the table tonight. In fact I know I would not have.

Thanks again for giving this classic a whole new life and me a #2 spot!

Cheers!

Absolutely stunning, so crisp especially in HD. Not a single glitch found so far and smooth as silk. Pup pack triggers perfectly too!

Thanks so much @ebor your hard work is GREATLY appreciated!

Just like so many other's advice to "just update your files"..... Moving to new DMDDevice.dll's totally stuffed my working system.... Thank God I have backups... BEWARE OF JUST UPDATING.....

upgraded to 2.5.0 and not getting the color experience.  Any other steps I might be missing?

After installing 2.5.0 did you also do this:

"You must delete the serum.dll and serum64.dll files that may be present in the VPinMAME directory"

Merci d'avance, bon week-end !

Hi @ebor,

For me if i replace my DmdDevice.dll my vpx crash.

If i put my old DmdDevice.dll my vpx works but no serum.

My version is DmdExt 2.5 in administrator execution and all other files all the latest and all files serum.dll are erase.

I don't find the trouble.

But congretulation for your work.

I hope i am going to find my trouble.

Those don't exist.  Deleted already.

I am having the exact same issue but tried other things.    My observations:  Installed lastest freezy 2.5 release both 86 and 64.   If I remove Serum64.dll and Serum.dll vpx table crashes as well as testing the rom in Setup64 crashes.    If I use this serum smb3.crom crashes the Setup64 rom test but old .PAC file works fine.    Not sure what else to try.

For those of you seeing what appears to be frames not triggering or DMD stuttering/locking up, try updating to vPinMAME beta v3.7.0-222 (or more recent).

Kraken.    Thanks for chiming in.   Installed beta per above. Ran Setup.   Verified that version is installed.    No difference.    .PAC files, and non-serum work.    Serum files abort vpx and Setup rom test without serum.dll or Serum64.dll.    I tried different combos all afternoon but 2.5.0 will not run serum roms on my system without serum.dll's.     I know it is suppose to run without them as they are now included in 2.5 but they won't on my sys.    Any other suggestions would be appreciated.   Could there be a conflict with Backglass handoff?

Update:   Upgraded Blackglass Server to 2.16.    No change.   So I don't think it is related to B2S server services.

So if you put the newest version of libserum (serum64.dll) from this link into your vpinmame folder the serum colors work? Freezy 2.5 should have it embedded...

I have it 'sort of ' working and looks great but the score doesn't appear/update until you hit a special target or trigger something else.   Also, sometimes it just stays on the that screen and doesn't return to the score.

Edit:
Just saw Kraken's comment below so will try that 😀
