[New VP10 Alert] Lost In Space Retro

Lost In Space Retro

After expressing my wish for a pinball table based on the classic LOST IN SPACE television series from the 1960s I was encouraged to try adapting an existing game myself. This is my very first attempt at modifying the art in any virtual pinball simulator, so some might find the result a bit clumsy.  For that reason, anyone who wishes to improve or add features to my version is entirely welcome to do so.

The game itself is Bigus's 1.2 version of the 1998 Sega machine that was a tie-in to the misguided theatrical film.  I love the multiball modes in the game, and thankfully Dick Tufeld reprised his role as the voice of Robot B-9, so it wasn't a hard decision to keep the sounds and gameplay while replacing some of the art with the TV characters and models.

I have included a rudimentary illuminated backglass to complement the table.  I'm sure that others will have good ideas that would make the game look or sound even better, but I am strictly a beginner.  I know nothing about Pup packs or audio substitution yet, though that may come down the road as I learn.  I also have no understanding of primitive modeling, so I simply reskinned the existing Jupiter 2.  That will explain why she's a bit warped.  I left the Robot toy alone for now, but if I learn how to export and edit primitives I will try to replace him as well.

If you're a fan of the series I hope you will enjoy my foray into VP modding.

A big thank you to Bigus for allowing me to adapt his mod based on the original creation by Goldchicco and 32assassin (both of whom deserve equal praise and gratitude).

What's New in Version 1.1  (See full changelog)

1.1 - Added AltSound package that replaces a few film actor voices with audio from the TV series.

The volumes for the various sounds can be increased in the ALTSOUND.CSV file.

even set at 100% in the csv the volume is extremely low. I had a look at the oggs and subsequently normalized them. MUCH MUCH better now. I can zip them up for you @DanLShane if you like.

That would be much appreciated. So far, the only complaint downloaders have is about the altsound, so this should make everyone happy. Sorry that I never took the time to get this right myself, but the Community always comes through.

A few users noted that some of the callouts and sounds in the included ALTSOUND were too quiet compared to the rest, so @Cliffy helped me to normalize the OGG files and assign proper volumes in the CSV.  I have uploaded this corrected version as 1.2.0.

First and foremost, thank you both for taking my question / sound comment into consideration. I have re-downloaded the new table package, replaced the original lostpc folder with the new one, and for good measure, I swapped out the table files with the fresh download. Unfortunately I did not see a change in the sound "out of the download box". I'm only a month or 2 into the hobby so forgive the extra questions, but do I still need to edit the altsound.csv file and up the settings? If so, which column do I need to adjust?

Thank you in advance.

Perhaps. DanLShane adjusted the gains back down to 50 I believe. Before going through all hat though lets make sure you have vpx volume set high enough in windows mixer. While in a game hit alt-tab select a screen other than vpx. Now go to the volume mixer in your task bar and adjust the VPX or DMD volume.

The correct altsound.csv file is included in the packaged download. No customization required.
