Help with one-size-fits-all solution for single monitor portrait/vert play

So to give some background, I don't own a cab or a multi-screen setup I am trying to set up VPX to play on a single secondary monitor, in vertical / portrait mode.

I was thinking of toggling "Show external DMD" on all tables and using that, dragging it to the upper-left of the screen when running Windowed / Cabinet mode. However, doing this produced this result:

Is there a combination of view mode (cabinet, window etc) and camera settings that will allow to have this sort of setup - the whole playfield viewable in portrait mode, AND having the DMD visible in the correct rotation at the same time?

The view doesn't have to be "proper" cabinet mode filling the entire screen, it will probably be better to set up the table in a more TPA-like view like this, leaving some breathing room for the DMD so it doesn't block a lot of the table, like this:

I hope what I'm trying to explain makes sense. Thanks in advance!

I only use vr room tables.  I toggle the vr on in the script and show the playfield and dmd are of the backbox on portrait

I have figured the setup out and got EXACTLY what I wanted!

Here is the final result and my settings:

This is with Use External DMD enabled in the F1 menu, and with slapping the plunger / Enter key twice in the camera setup so the game doesn't overstretch the table and "guesstimates" the dimensions as the message said, leaving the perfect amount of space above for the DMD.

I had to open DmdDevice.ini and change "[virtualdmd] enabled = XXX" to "true", so the external DMD always shows and stacks on top of the table, because otherwise clicking on the table to "focus" it and continue emulation would cut off the DMD.

Now everything works EXACTLY like I wanted to set it up! Posting this for future reference in case anyone needs this type of setup in the future.

I suppose the one question that remains is, how do I fix SS tables?

I figured out I can't use the external DMD for EM tables, as they don't have F1 ROM option menus where I can force it on as a "universal scoreboard", but SS tables can have that forced on and used there.

However, some tables look fine with it on and some don't - on some SS tables, even in Cabinet mode, the table's "widescreen landscape view" scoring slots still show up, like in the shot below:

I guess my final question on the topic would be, how can I hide those or edit them out?

EDIT: Opened the table script and searched around, found:

const cab_mode = 0 ' 1 = cabinet mode (Turns off the desktop backglass score lights)

So that takes care of that!

Other tables that have backglass alphanumerics or text that still shows in cabinet mode, I used the editing view of the VPX client and set the numerics rendering style to "hidden" and sized the text boxes to be 1x1 pixels.

hello

The cabinet mode also confused me because in fact it's just made for several screens, so here is my method... I play on TV 55"portrait laid flat on a table...

disabled the wallpaper...

will show the scores  seach hidden in a script and modify

With hidden = 0, it also displays the scores even for pinball machines from the 70s and 80s

For ss tables.  If you mark the dmd as hidden.

In dmdext.ini change use alpha numerics,  toward the bottom of the ini to enabled.

Then when you launch the tables each score block with have its own seperate window you can position each window wherever you like

You can also change the style color and glow.

The default and maybe 2 examples are listed right in the ini file below where you enable the al0ha numerics

Thanks for the input, guys!

Don't want to spam another topic, will just ask here.

Is the "Import POV" function from the VPX main menu bugged? It offers me to import POV settings from another table's ini file, but when I do it, the new table loads up and does NOT have the POV values I just imported.

Should I just write the values down on a piece of paper and enter them all manually one by one for each table?
