Fathom altsound extract problems.

I'm working on altsounds for Fathom, but having trouble getting the altsound to work after recording.  I do not know how to figure out what's off about the extract/record.  It looks like it generated everything as it should.

The extraction seemed straightforward:

-load pinmame

-launch fathom rom

-press F4

-press delete

-enter all 0's

-press delete

-press F6 and let it fly

Here is the altsound generated - https://mega.nz/file/CnZHTAqA#mNj2qYBgxJ9BROR9w-I1B8ZbG43howRPKwqLYbweh24

Could someone please take a look and give me a pointer?  Thank you!

Try converting wav files to ogg, and see if that helps.

I am not sure this altsound process works on all roms.

The list here at this link, will give you an idea of what roms it does work on.

(I think all the roms that can be converted, have been converted and are on this links page.)

I tried converting all .wav to .ogg and made the necessary changes in the altsound.csv file.  It still didn't work.

Are you certain that one can't be made if it's not already been made and found on some site somewhere?

Thanks

For what it's worth, I copied some random altsound over to the fathom folder and some of that table's altsounds were being heard.  So... it works, but I guess the references to the extracted Fathom altsound sounds are wrong.

@iDigStuff do you have any expertise to lend here? :)  Thanks!  I've been watching all your videos from a couple years ago about altsounds

Your files look fine. What version of pinmame are you running?

3.5 from October 17, 2022.

I'd really like to do this with with Fathom, because this would be a big part of any sort of a revisited (as Haggis calls it) or what I like to call "reimagined".    I think you see what I'm after. :)  This would be a mod of what me and @UnclePaulie have worked on in this last release.  Quite a few sounds need to be added or replaced to do anything in light of what Haggis has done.

... at least 3.5 is what PinMAME32.exe tells me.  However, I know I've installed 3.6.  I actually just installed this version - https://github.com/vpinball/pinmame/actions/runs/6455584509?fbclid=IwAR3jgF5UeM4szdZ05YD8b6ny32Tfh_KpVHiywMCeHmWEcVQ9Bor8XVYQqds

I then updated - https://github.com/vpinball/pinmame/releases/tag/v3.6-573-5d6459d

I'll try to extract again.

I extracted once more, converted .wav to .ogg, fixed altsound.csv to reflect the extension change.   I noticed there is now an altsound.ini created.  Still doesn't work though.

I can assure you that if I replace 0x0000-fathom.ogg with something that has sound, it doesn't take long for that sound to be played.

@redbone things will probably progress faster if we didn't go back and forth on this thread.  Have you verified that the extracted .wav files are good?  Not all extracted sounds are actually sounds.  Sometimes you get empty space.  I'd be happy to work with you to try and get past this hurdle.  Hit my up on discord @mrgrynch
