Hello ZeDMD users and sellers

Here https://github.com/zesinger/ZeDMD_Updater/releases is a little flashing program I made. It automatically detects the latest version available on Github (thanks for little changes on the zip files generated @mkalkbrenner), displays the connected:

  • ESP32 (with no ZeDMD firmware)
  • "ZeDMD"/"ZeDMD HD" with their firmware version (if 3.2.3+ as the info was not available before). If the version is the latest, the device will be displayed in green, if not, in red.

Just select a device, the firmware version you want to install and the resolution (256x64 or 128x32) you want to install:

  • For an ESP32 you'll have the button with "Install" active, just click on it
  • If you choose 256x64 for a ZeDMD or 128x32 for a ZeDMD HD (you want to change the resolution of the ZeDMD) the button with "Install" will be active
  • If you choose a version that is different that the one already in or  128x32 for a ZeDMD or 256x64 for a ZeDMD HD and there is an update available the button with "Update" will be active.

The updater is compatible with CH340, CP210x and CH9102 USB-to-serial chips. If ever you have a different one, please report an issue here https://github.com/zesinger/ZeDMD_Updater/issues for updates.

Disconnection/connection of devices will be automatically detected.

The address to download the tool has been updated as a feature has been added (choosing the firmware version you want to install) and a bug has been fixed (COM port number >9 was not working).

The updater has been updated to v1.5.

v1.4 added a button to test the LEDs of the panels showing the sequence full red -> full green -> full blue.

v1.5 adds the listing of the different versions available:

- 7 bit versions for ZeDMD HD: default is 5 bits as, for now, 7 bits requires too much memory on ZeDMD HD to display RGB24 (like with frontends and Ultra/FlexDMD), but if you don't need it, you can switch to 7 bits

- Wifi versions will be available soon: this versions communicate through Wifi and not USB, allowing you to have a no wire and so a (or several) remote ZeDMD/ZeDMD HD. As it streams the data, @mk47 reported that it may be used for RGB24 on ZeDMD HD in 7bit as less memory is needed.

- An ESP32 S3 version will be available sooner or later leveraging the improved electronics available onboard: more memory and a USB transfer rate that may be much higher than the standard ESP32. An ESP32 S3 bought on AliExpress is something like 5€ (+2€ shipping), so your favorite real DMD remains cheap even if we switch to that new device version.

As usual, thanks to Markus for his amazing work improving the ZeDMD!
