That's really a great use of the backgrounds, thanks!

As I said to @Boroka, you may use as many backgrounds as you want. For now, they are limited to 255 per colorization, but I may easily change it up to 65535.

And, except increasing a little bit the size of the final file, backgrounds don't increase the processing time for the colorization, so feel free to use as many and as often as you want!

Now v2.2.0 is out bringing some further helping tools for the authors.

2 new features for the comparison mode requested by @linojon:

  • The combo box that lists all the different comparison masks is now displaying a bitmap for each mask showing it applied to the current displayed frame:

  • If you select several frames in the frame strip and activate the "Show Common" button, the pixels that are not the same in all the selected frames will flash in white:

Here is an update of the latest features added to the ColorizingDMD editor during the summer.  As you can see, the team has been busy adding features and squishing bugs since the last post.

Version 2.3.0 - June 16th

- New button added on the Comparison Mode screen called "Update Same List".  With this button, ColorizingDMD calculates the number of same frames that would be found with each existing mask, then in the list box, the value will be displayed (without and with the Shape Mode ON).  The values will be deleted when you change the displayed frame or when you modify the current mask, then you just need to re-click on the button.  These values are quite time consuming, so it can't be done in real time, reason why there is a button to calculate them.

Version 2.3.1 - June 16th

- Just a small update to the feature added above to include a checkbox that shows if the mask is used at least once in your project.

Version 2.3.2 - June 17th

- Bug reported by Boroka (Background not displayed in the exported GIF) fixed.  Several other bug fixes with the background like color rotations,etc...

Version 2.3.3 - August 14th

- Two minor bug fixes as identified by Ebor.

Version 2.3.4 - August 30th

- Bug reported by Kraken:  Instance of Sections/Bookmarks window remains open in the background when using the ALPHA sort button.

- Bug reported by eBor:  Issue with other backgrounds changing when deleting a background.

Version 2.4.0 - August 31st

- Feature requested by Boroka: in the "same frames" part of the comparison toolbar, you now have a drop-down list of all the same frames and clicking on one of them show it as the first frame in the frame strip.

- Feature requested by Ebor: in the background window, there is a list of all the frames using the current background and clicking on one of them show it as the first frame in the frame strip.

- Feature requested by Ebor: the button "COPY DYNA" copies all the dynamic content (dynamic colour sets and dynamic masks) from the current displayed frame to all the other selected ones.  Ebor mentions that it is very useful when colorizing Alphanumeric ROMs.

Version 2.5.0 - August 31st

- Feature requested by Kraken: automatically add a shadow of the selection in the direction given by the button pushed. Where there is dynamic content, the shadow is not drawn.

Selecting the red text and clicking the bottom right box adds the following shadow.

Clicking the centre "All" creates an outline/contour:

Tip:  You can easily add depth to by adding a first shadow, then adding that new shadow to your selection and adding a second shadow:

Version 2.5.1 - September 1st

- Bug reported by Ebor:  Missing button descriptions for the new automatic shadows feature.

- Bug reported by Dtatane:  Increase the main window minimal size to be sure that the whole toolbar is shown.

- Bug reported by Dtatane: Main window flickering while changing the displayed frame in Colorization mode.

Version 2.5.2 - September 1st

- Adjustment of feature: The automatic shadow feature now create a shadow from the current selected color instead of always color zero.

As you can see, @zedrummer has been busy squishing bugs and implementing our non-stop requests for features that make us, the authors, more efficient.

That's all! (for now)

ColorizingDMD Version 2.6.0 - September 10th

New feature:

  • Added Loop checkbox in the Tester ingame so that the sequence play forever (either forward or backward)
  • Comparison and Colorization toolbars have been reorganized according Dtatane suggestion. It focuses on helping new authors to spot the basic tools (placed to the left of the toolbars) and ignore unneeded advanced tools (placed to the right)

Bug fixes:

  • With 2 Undo, an image import is completely canceled (1 for palette recovery, 1 for frame recovery)
  • You can't reduce the width of the windows more than the width of the toolbars
  • The Backgrounds window dimensions and position were not restored. And now if a window is minimized or maximized when exiting the program, it will be restored as this at the next session.

ColorizingDMD Version 2.6.1 - September 11th

Bug fixes:

  • The left and right keys were captured by the frame list in the "Mask to list" part of the Comparison toolbar
  • Ctrl+Alt+Magicwand to select all the pixels with the same color was not working everytime

SortingCDump Version 2.0.0 - September 12th

New feature to help co-working on a project:
Now you can import frames from one session of SortingCDump to another. The new frames are not sorted and placed at the end of the project.
The data imported are:

  • original frame (dumped frame)
  • colorized frame
  • frame duration
  • frame palette
  • frame dynamic sets
  • frame dynamic masks

SortingCDump Version 2.1.0 - September 13th

The import/export frames feature has been extended:

  • The backgrounds used by the frames imported are also imported. If the same background is already present in the destination file, the frame imported will point to that background, if not, a new background will be created.
  • The color rotations of the frames are imported.

Several bugs have been fixed too.

ColorizingDMD Version 2.7.0 - October 25th

New feature:

  • Now, the tester dialog displays the original uncolorized frame sent to dmdext
  • A new "Copy" button has been added to the sprite toolbar so that the sprite is copied in the clipboard and you can copy it back to any frame (Caution: The sprites have no palette, so it will use the palette of the frame where it is copied to.)

Bug fix:

  • Using the button to delete a sprite detection area was not working properly.

ColorizingDMD Version 2.7.2 - October 27th

Light optimization:
When moving in the frame strip, all the movements are now not available to be undone, only those needed.
Before there was too many of them and so the 16 Undo steps were quickly filled with unneeded frame strip movements/selections.
