Hello!

 

I wanted to share the beginning process of my first table, mainly to keep me motivated but also to be able to ask for help if needed!

I have a few tables ideas but decided to focus on this one first as the rules seems easier to code rather than some crazy ideas I have...

So the table is (provisionally?) called "The big show".

Background image is just for reference to know where to put my seats and targets but not representative of the final layout (particularly the upper part).

 

Here are some of the rules:

 

  • The main goal is to sell tickets in order to fill out the seats of the theater and sold out the show:
    • Each category of seats is given a set of targets / bumpers in order to sell them
      For exemple, regular "Orchestra" seats will be sold by hitting one of the three bumpers (not represented on the image yet).
    • Blue balcony seats will be able to sell after activating the slingshots by passing though the corresponding inlane.
    • Etc... etc... for the other categories

 

  • Multiplier (x2, x3, x5) will be activated by lighting the three upper lanes (not represented yet).
    The multiplier will not apply as a regular multiplier (AKA when the ball is lost) but instead will be themed as a Marketing campaign that increases the number of sold seats
    • Exemple: after activating x2, hitting a VIP Tickets spot target will sell and fill 2 seats instead of one! (and so on with higher multipliers)

 

  • Solding out a show will immediately begin "Showtime mode"
    Further informations on the mode on a later update!
    Successfully completing the mode will reset the playfield seats and allow you to try and sold out another show!

 

  • Ideas which I don't know will actually be implemented:
    • I want it to be a 3 ball game with first ball being a 3 ball multiball, second ball a 2 ball multiball, and last ball a single ball.
      It fits the theme of the sale just starting and generating high demand/traffic and then slowly calming but I'll need to test if it works gameplay-wise!
    • Depending on how well you finish the "Showtime mode", a multiplier will be attributed for the next selling show, simulating good press and happy fans!

 

 

So far nothing has been done in terms of visuals as I want to figure out some of the code and placements on the playfield first.

I'm currently working on the selling part of the tickets, which is the main feature. So far so good.
The seats are going to be sold in a fun and realistic way and it is visually really pleasing to see all those seats filling out the theater!

 

I hope you like what I've presented so far.

I'll keep the topic updated each time I have something fun to present of if a goal is achieved!

I ran into a problem today, the properties menu is NOWHERE to be found.

I know you're supposed to drag it down just above the layers but it's not here anymore.

 

I can't drag it anywhere, I haven't found any option to turn it back on.
I watch behind every windows, tried resizing everything...


Relaunched VPX.

Relaunched my computer.

Tried with other tables.

 

Still nowhere to be found.

Couldn't test my code.

 

Any suggestions?

Open editor and click Preferences tab at top of editor.

Click Editor UI Options.

Now click Reset Window Positions.

Now close the editor.

Now open the editor, and your windows should be back.

A little update on visuals, rules and ideas:

The table will use the layout of "Black Pyramid" with probably some minor tweaks.

Targets are all going to be repurposed to fit my theme though.

Categories needs to be updated on the visuals to fit the new seats layout.

So today I started mapping the seats lights.

I need to figure out a way to make my fans appear when a seat is sold, I thought I would be able to do it with decal but we can't rename them or make them visible/invisible.

 

Another way to do it would be to have another layer of playfield image only with the fans and active each seat visual by making it visible/invisible with a wall at like 0,01 height that don't have collision.

That way I will be able to name every seat in order to sell / fill and light the best seat available (script is almost ready for that part).

 

If you have ideas on a better way to have the fans appearing on seats with a better object, please tell me!

 

EDIT: I think I just need to choose a different image to be lit when a seat is sold, that way lit seats will have someone. Downside is that I will need another set of lights for attract mode or else in order to lit empty seats...

I need to keep thinking about it... And to go test it if works ASAP!

Cool table idea! If it was my choice, i would use different stages of brightness for the seats( Off, light(seat sold), bright (occupied by fan)) instead of 'real fans'. All these different images of fans might look a bit strange when progressing in the game. Just my thoughts, keep on going & showing!
