Issue with display in a real T2 pin

Has anyone experienced a problem when installing a PIN2DMD display in a real T2 pin where the display will not show any colour? The person that has installed it says it will not show anything by grey/beige. He says it will not even display default colours with no memory card installed. He has moved the display in question to his WCS 94 and it works as expected so it's not a problem with the display as far as we can tell. He's even swapped cables and driver boards between the two games without any luck.

 

I believe it is either an issue with the pin and the ROMs he's running on it or that the firmware installed (v. 4.48) doesn't play nicely with the pin. I've asked him to downgrade the firmware to something older as I have installed displays in T2 games before without issue.

 

Please let me know if you have experienced anything like this.
