I try not to ask for help, unless I'm really stuck, which unfortunately I am. Issue is with transparent loading videos on popper. This latest build I am using an AMD video card and not too familiar with the software as I do with Nvidia. I've changed whatever settings I could find on the software such as full RGB, but still have a black box when the video loads. I can't find settings for 32bit as suggested on the guide.

When I attempt to use full screen loading video, it loads fine, but again with a black box near the bottom middle of the playfield.

40" Samsung 4K TV connected to the back of the card via HDMI cable.  I've been reading that perhaps connecting the TV to the DPI port of the card could solve the issue, but I don't have a cable to try.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having this same issue with an AMD Radeon RX 580. When loading, the T-Arc has a black box behind it or when I have a full screen loading video, there's just a plain black box filling the same space at the bottom on the playfield screen. So it's clearly an issue of transparent videos being shown as black. The Nailbuster wiki doesn't help because you can't change the dynamic range like you can with the Nvidia (which appears to be the only fix listed there). I've also tried different drivers to no avail. I'm at my wits end because this just started happening recently and I can't figure out why. Thanks in advance for any help.

Has anyone had luck resolving this?  I see the instructions out there for setting this on Nvidia (https://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=nvidia_settings), but I can't seem to find an equivalent setting for AMD cards (RX 570).

This was working for a while and it seems a driver update in the past month or so is resulting in washed out playfield screens in popper and black box around the transparent loading screens.  Not  the end of the world, but annoying.

I did just update to the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers (22.11.12) but that hasn't had any effect, have also tried adjusting Color Depth (only option is 8bpc) and Pixel Format, but that didn't change anything.

UPDATE: Decided to switch from RX570 to GTX 1060 and that resolved the issues.

Thanks,

- C

I have the same issue with the default loading video.  Creating a new video from scratch did the trick for me. I had to ensure all areas that should be transparent were below RGB 16,16,16, and all areas that should be visible were RGB 16,16,16 or above.

Question, since I'm struggling with this. What software did you use? I looked and tried a few that were free. I had only one success. My issues is the same as the rest, using AMD and seeing the black for what is supposed to be transparent. I am still troubleshooting but about reached the conclusion of others. What is weird is that a few of the TARC videos DO work as expected with transparency, just not all. It's consistent too with those that work and the others that don't which leads me to believe how the video was transcoded or something. Anyway, if you would please point me in the right direction you used, I would love to try it. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Same here. I have updated nvidia drivers, and now have this problem... I have done the rigth configuration but nothing noone result... Any idea?

Edit/Solution: pinUpPopperDisplayX.exe 1.5.1(36) do this problem with nvidia 1080 gtx. Reverted to previous 1.5.0(30)  and works again perfect.

A user asked how I created the video above, and if I could share the video through a google drive link.  Below is my response:

I posted the video to google drive at the following link:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/11Mc_8D2MynsWmy-NloWWbNe72HQmA6QX/view?usp=sharing

Just drop that into your PinUPSystem\POPMedia\Default\Loading folder.  May want to rename the existing pl_home.mp4 first, of course, just to back it up.

To create the video, I took the Cyan.png file from PinUPSystem\Theme_4KCabinet\WheelBar\No Arrows (though you could use a different one).  I opened it up using pixlr.com (free picture editing online software).  The portion of the bar image that should be transparent (the dark black area above and below) needs to be deleted.  Select the appropriate area with the magic wand selector and adjust the selection area adding or removing to it as needed.  Then delete the selected area.  I added background layer of solid black (RGB 0,0,0).  Then back on the original layer, I used the color picker tool to find the darkest black area that I wanted to remain visible and checked the RGB values.  They were too low (15 or below), so they were going to be transparent.  I used the menu item for Adjustment -> Hue and Saturation and increased the lightness slider a little and checked the color picker again to see if the RGB values were high enough.

Once the darkest black on the layer I wanted to remain visible was at RBG 16 or higher, I saved the file as a new picture on my machine.  Then I added some text that read "Loading" on a new top layer (ensuring the RBGs were all above 15) and saved that to a new image.

Then I used Davinci Resolve (free video editing software) to create a small 4k video that animated between the "Loading" image and the image without text.  When creating the final video from the project, go to the Deliver tab and set up a custom export.  The settings I used are as follows:

Format:  MP4

Codec:  H.264

Encoder:  Native

Resolution:  Custom 1080 X 2160

Use Vertical Resolution:  Yes

Frame Rate:  30

Under Advanced Settings:

Data Levels:  Full

Retain sub-black and super-white data:  Yes

Color Space Tag:  sRGB

I hope someone finds this useful.

Thanks for sharing! Any chance you can make one for the dark blue arch?

No problem.  Here is the dark blue version:

You'll just need to rename it to pl_home.mp4.

Going back through my steps, I realized I forgot to mention the removal of the existing black background from the wheel bar image.  That needs to happen before adjusting the lightness of the remaining wheel bar image.  Otherwise (obviously) the pure black background layer won't be visible at all, and none of the image will be transparent in pinup.

Thanks for this info. This worked for me. I don't know what changed between these versions, but I have not noticed any difference other than the transparency is now working after rolling back. Hopefully the next build will address this.
