DMD animation creation

Hi All,

 

A friend and myself have created a new original table and would like to create some old school Williams/ Gottleib (128 x 32) DMD animations.

 

Now does anyone know what  frames per second these older animations (90's/early 2000')s run at?

 

Plus what applications do you guys recommend for making them. Currently using Synfig and GIMP.
