Mirkin Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Hi All. Can somebody give me a bit of help getting this game working please. I tried to follow the instructions that people have kindly put online but I can't seem to get it to run. I think the issue lies with VPMame but not sure. Here is the situation. I put SAM.vbs into my tables folder and downloaded the game code from here:- http://www.sternpinball.com/game-code/game-code-x-men and put the file into my ROMS folder I also tried following the instructions on this page http://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/828-stern-roms/ I tried to look for the ROM in VPMame as described but I don't exactly know what it should be or even if its there. For information I'm using VPMame V3.0 Any help greatly appreciated. Chris
Administrators Dazz Posted January 1, 2015 Administrators Posted January 1, 2015 Make sure you are running the correct PinMAME and follow the directions posted. http://vpuniverse.com/forums/files/file/2480-vpinmame-sampindmdunity-unified-version/
Mirkin Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 Hi Dazz Thanks for posting a reply. I did try looking at this page and following the instruction but to be honest i was a little lost. How can I tell which VPmame I'm suppoosed to use. Like I said mine seems to be version 3.0 but on the website at http://www.vpinmame.com/the newest file is 2.3. I bought my cab already setup and although I'm getting very good at installing new games and systems etc this is the first time I've had to do anything with Vpinmame and i'm finding it a bit confusing. Can you explain in easy steps please? Chris
Administrators Dazz Posted January 1, 2015 Administrators Posted January 1, 2015 So who did you get the cabinet from with it already setup?
Mirkin Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 I had a guy build it for me here the UK and he managed to get it working in a basic fashion but to be honest he wasn't too clued up on the PC side of things. It took me months to get it running right. I think that maybe I didn't download the ROM properly from stern. This is also the first time I tried to get a ROm from there and I just saw how much trouble other people have had with the Avatar ROM. Anything you can help we with would be a step forward. I've been reading this post as well http://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/78-stern-sam-pinmame-source-code/ and it all looks a little bit top secret. Maybe you're wondering who I am. I have same login name on VPF and just want to try and get these tables working on my cab.
Content Provider gtxjoe Posted January 2, 2015 Content Provider Posted January 2, 2015 From Dazz's link, download SAM.vbs and unzip it to the \Tables folder download VPinMAME_SAM_UNITY_PINDMD_UNIFIED.2.06.rar and unzip and replace the vpinmame.dll in the vPinMame folder in vPinMame folder, click on setup.exe and click on Install button download the Avatar Pro ROM and unzip it. Rename the bin file to avr110.bin and then zip and name it avr_110.zip put avr_110.zip into the vpinmame\roms folder If table doesn't run, tell us the exact error you get
Mirkin Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Hi Joe I did exactly as you said and now I have all the SAM games listed in VPM which is sweet. Somehow my version went backwards from 3.0 to 2.6 but I'm not too concerned about that. All I need now is a ROM lokl. I seriously can't find them on the stern site. It looks like they've redesigned the site and all I can find is the gamecode. Any clues anybody? Thanks again folks.
Content Provider allknowing2012 Posted January 2, 2015 Content Provider Posted January 2, 2015 The game code is the rom -) Download .. unzip .. remove everything but the .bin, rename it, zip to the new name and copy it to your roms directory.
Mirkin Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Finally this has sorted the problem. Of course some else has gone wrong as always. All my DMD's have moved (all tables) now they won't stay where I reposition them. Is this something to do with the VPM update?
Content Provider gtxjoe Posted January 2, 2015 Content Provider Posted January 2, 2015 I am going to point you back to Dazz's post - that has your solution
Mirkin Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Thanks again Joe. Your answer was cryptic but once I new the solution was there I worked it out. I exported the registry values and edited them the same as it says to do. I also pasted the DMD size and position in every table and most of them are now working fine and with colour as well so a double bonus. For the stubborn ones I pressed F1 and set them up manually. I learnt more about VPM in the last 24hrs than in the last year so thanks again.
