Twister (Sega 1996) with VR Room 2.0.0

   (11 reviews)

8 Screenshots

After the VP competition a few weeks ago, there were several errors reported on Twister (Sega 1996).  I updated all of those errors, and since it was open... I did LOTS of updates.   The version that was played, I had done about a year ago, and only did a VR room option, Fleep sounds, and VPW physics.

In Version 2.0, I've now updated to the latest physics, slings, Lampz fading routines, 3D light inserts, dynamic shadows, flupper flashers and bumpers (modded), major GI updates, shadows, playfield mesh, and a complete redo of the ball trough and multiball lock trough.  Also gBOT (global ball on table) is used throughout to improve performance.  I've also changed the desktop background, as well as VR updates.  I created a 3D fan model in blender, and then reused the animated fan blade and code from Flupper's whirlwind.  There are several other updates, and there are several options as well.  It has been converted to VPX 10.72, based on recommendations from the VPW team.  VR Room, Desktop, and Cab are now automatically chosen.  In the options, you can change the bulbs to white or blue, VR Rooms, and other items.

Thanks to the VPW team for testing, especially tastywasps, apophis, bord, sixtoe, leojreimroc, and the feedback from the community on the VP competition!

This table works for desktop, cab, and VR Room.

How can I get rid of the cab playfield rail, lockbar and back covers? I tried forcing VRRoom to 0, but that doesn't seem to do it.

@WiredRacing - haven't looked at this table specifially, but, often, you will find a visible option that you can toggle for table elements. If there is no references in the script for them, mark and press delete should do it.

Afraid of breaking the table ? Why ? Just unzip the original if you make mistakes. I urge people to experiment more. It is not like your computer breaks if you try out something that you don't know already.

Only warning I give is don't fuck with anything in scripts folder and don't add vbs scripts from table downloads into your install, unless, you know what you are doing.

*nod* yup. I looked, though I tend to look for the term 'rail' or 'rails'.. is there another word for 'em?

And it's a bit strange, they weren't there originally, but then they were which had me suspect I hit the magnasave and rotated into another parameter, but I couldn't get pushing the magnasave to change it, so I stopped loading the VRROOM setting from the config and just fixed it at 0... And it's still drawing it... anyhow figured I'd ask in case someone knew off-the-cuff how I could turn it off for that table.

Great table. Playing on desktop the only thing I noticed was that the ball has a little bit of a halo effect around it. Any ideas how to fix that?

There is, yes.  On the table options, under ball... you can adjust the bulb intensity down.  Perhaps something small like 0.05.

Table is really nice to play. One thing to check maybe is when you played 1 ball you can hold the start button and it restarts, shoots out the ball of the plunger lane and from the locks and you can use them to play the first ball.

For the rest really nice table! Love it

Think it will be played a lot this week because of the VP competition :)

updated table and no longer shows dmd?

Are you on vpx 10.72?  It should automatically decide between modes.  Also, which mode are you playing in?  On desktop, it will show the dmd on the monitor next to the table.  In VR, it's embedded in there.  And on cab, should work as normal.

UnclePaulie thanks for keeping up with this sucker!  I rank this table lowkey the most polished turd out there.  It has seen SO many transformations and deserved this treatment.  So much quirky fun to play and I hope all get a chance to really dive into the gameplay.

I'm amazed at how real this is in the way that the ball RARELY sees the outlanes which is mindblowing with how much side to side action it gets.  The real table is the same way as you are constantly nervous.  Great stuff here and I hope all can appreciate it.

No more flipper decals!?!😭

Just kidding! Thank you for the upgrades.

Ooops.  I put new flipper primitives in there, as the primitives looked better than the regular vpx flippers.  The option for decals is in there, but doesn't work, as it is tied to the original non-visible flippers.  I would need to modify the images of the flippers with the decals (which would be easy).  My bad, and I overlooked.  If I do an update, I'll include them.

Desktop.

Is it a table for Table only ?..not sure,

I got many errors at start-up.

I've read many comments there, and looks like its not for desktop..

Thoses are the errors I get on start up.:

Starting script

Compile error
-------------
Line: 113
Variable is undefined: 'RenderingMode'

Runtime error
-------------
Line: 374
Variable is undefined: 'vpmInit'

----------------

This one might be too complicated for my little knowledge of VP.

Thanks.

You need to be on the latest vpx version 10.72.  The script will automatically adjust if you are on desktop, VR, or a full cabinet.  It will not work on earlier versions.
