Can't get buttons working.

My cabinet is a Recroom Master 24". I setup FX3 with no trouble, all buttons work fine. I installed Visual Pinball X and loaded a table (Twister) and the ROM and backglass. Everything seems to work fine except that we can't get the buttons to work correctly. However I can play the game using a wireless keyboard. I have went into the key settings in Visual Pinball X and tried mapping the buttons but I can't get them to work. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks
