Trouble Getting Shrek To Load

Hello all,

I've tried modifying the Family Guy beta table and loading Shrek via the instructions below that are in the table notes of the VP10 table mod, when I try to load the .vpx table after applying the patch in VP I get a message stating that it cannot load the file because it is corrupted. This message pops up before the "play" and "Script" icons even become highlighted, don't know if that matters but just thought that I'd mention it if it helps out here. I tried it a couple of time with the same result. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how were you able to resolve it? I see that there are over 700 downloads of the VP 10 mod, I'm assuming I must have something wrong on my end.

Thank you

download the original table at http://vpuniverse.co...-pinball-vp991/

- download the VPUPatcher tool at http://vpuniverse.co...ch-32bit-64bit/

- open VPUPatcher and select "Family Guy_BETA_VP991.vpt" as the original (unmodified table)

- now select "Shrek_VP10_mod_1.1.dif" as the new table patch

- type the new filename, e.g. "Shrek_VP10.vpx" . Make sure that the file name ends in .vpx.

- you're ready to patch. Click "Apply patch" and, when the tool finishes, you'll find the table in the "mods" folder inside the VPPatch location path

I had the same problem with the patching system on a bunch of different tables.  I discovered If I named the patched file the same name as the original table file it worked.  The new file goes in the mod folder so there's no conflict. In the case of the Shrek file I would name the new table the same as the .dif file.  See what happens.

Hi Stefan,

I'm not super knowledgeable about .exe files and such but I do have VP X up and running(thanks to Fren for the help with that) with no problems on about 40 tables....and let me just say it is super!

I believe the Patch file converts the VP9 Beta version to the VP X version of Shrek.....possibly through the use of smoke and mirrors? :)  The patch download includes three .exe files

which I placed in my tables folder and clicked "run" on. They are jdiff.exe

                                                                                                     jptch.exe

                                                                                              and VPUPatcher32.exe

Pinnutz,

I'm a bit confused about the "mods" folder that the .vpx table file is placed in after the patch is performed....do I leave it there? If so how do I launch the table.

Or do I place it in my tables folder along with my other .vpx table files? I placed it in my tables folders along with the other .vpx tables.

I tried as you suggested and renamed the patched table to match the .diff file which ended up being named Shrek_VP10_mod_1.1.vpx

When I tried to start this table from the editor I ended up with the same message that it could not load the table because it was corrupt.

Thank you both for trying to help out.

The patcher program has those files and it can be placed anywhere. It does not need to be in your tables folders or anything as it is completely separate from VP/VPM.  Just put it in it's own folder.  You only need to run the VPUPatcher as it uses the other files in the background.  Make sure that you are using the correct version for your operating system, either 32bit or 64bit. I can't recall, but i think if you run the 32bit on a 64bit OS then it may cause the error you are seeing.

Make sure that you read the directions on the patcher download.

Thanks Dazz......

I'm running a 32 bit OS,Windows 7.....I tried clicking on the 64 bit version and did get the message that my computer doesnt support that version, so I am using the correct version

for my setup.

I've read and re-read the instructions for the patch and tried doing this several times with the same corrupt files result when I tried to load things up in editor.

If others are doing this and are playing Shrek after the patch, then clearly I'm doing something wrong on my end, just not sure what at this point.

Do I take the patched table out of the "mods" folder and place it with the other tables? Seems logical to do that......

The instructions say that the file name should end with .vpt but being that this is a VP X file I did rename it with a .vpx extenion. I believe this is correct?

Not really sure why I'm still having problems as I believe I've done everything correctly per the instructions.

I've downloaded both files again and actually ran the Family Guy beta 9.9 table.....so that working for me as well.

Yes, you take the table from the mod folder and place it into your table folder.  Make sure that you have "view file extensions" turned on in windows.  If you don't then you can't really tell what files you are working with.  It's possible that you do not and you are adding .vpx to another type of file.  (IE: Shrek.vpx.vpt).

Sorry my suggestion on naming the file the same as the .dif file didn't work.  You were correct on moving the .vpx file to the tables folder.  I had the same problem you are having with patched files not loading and saying they were corrupted.  This happened on both VP9 and VP10 files that I tried to patch.  I gave up on the patch thing initially as I thought it had issues.  Then like I said I tried it again a few days later, naming the files as I had stated earlier and things worked.  The system was freshly booted at that time also.  To be honest in the few days in between tries I could have re-installed something as I was doing a lot of configuring on my set up.  The tables that didn't work for me were the Family guy table, I was doing some patch to the lights for Stewie Pinball and Shrek.  I have since applied both patches and the games load and play fine.

If I get a chance tonight I will experiment with the naming thing and see if it causes me any issues.

Thanks guys...I'm striking out here with all suggestions.....

Yes, I have file extensions showing...

Here is the file name that I am trying to load up after performing the patch....the file has been removed from the mods folder and placed in my tables folder.

Shrek_VP10_mod_1.1.vpx

End result is cannot load file because it is corrupt.

This is after multiple downloads and patch attempts....whatever it is that I am doing wrong I continue to repeat it. Apparently.....

Doh!!

Thanks gtxjoe for the tip. It still didn't work. I get the same error. I installed vpinmame 2.5, installed the SAM files where they're supposed to go and ran the ROM and table provided earlier and I get the same message. What's strange is that I had this working before I reformatted my C drive. I'm not sure what step I'm missing.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but is anybody else having problems with this table on the newer version of VPX.  I find that I load it up and it queues up one ball.  As soon as  I launch, one of the captive balls makes a break for freedom and I'm playing two balls.  When I lose one, the flippers go dead and the second one drains.  Now the machine queues up two or three balls. If I try to paly that set, other captured balls join the contest.  The captive balls that escape do not reset between games.  This issue is seriously infringing on my enjoyment of this table and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this behavior.  I've been having the problem for at least the last three or four beta updates.  Part of the problem is that nobody on the site providing the updates would ever admit to having this table, let alone looking at why there is now a problem where there wasn't one previously.

I think it's more likely issue with the table, not with VPX.   The captive balls should never become "jailbroken", but if you have nudging on your cab you can break them free.   Could probably place an invisible wall somewhere to prevent them from escaping.

I have a real FG and there's NO way those balls are supposed to ever come loose like that.  :)

Thanks gtxjoe for the tip on checking to see if Shrek was in the list of games supported. I reinstalled vpinmame 2.8 with the SAM files in the same folder and when I launched it, I saw Shrek in the list and then the table played fine. Thanks for the heads up.
